Kidde Home Fire Extinguisher (2-Pack)

Kidde Home Fire Extinguisher (2-Pack)

Kidde are not the best brand. At my last job, the man who serviced the fire extinguishers for the company told me that Kidde were such low quality that he outright refused to service them. Just my two cents.

Ever been in a preventable house fire?
I’d rather have two “low quality” fire extinguishers than none at all. Even ONE, is better than none.

@flared0ne Someone is reading your comments apparently and I don’t believe he’s named Darvin.

Kiddie aren’t meant to be serviceable. they’re meant to be inexpensive and disposable, as opposed to paying $90 for one then paying an additional $25 each year to have serviced (if you can find a service that will come out to your house for 1-2 units)

Not sure what model these are or when they were manufactured but there is a recall on the plastic handled models. I had purchased two of the plastic handled models and they were replaced by kiddie so if you want to do the leg work you could possibly get four for this price.

I agree that they’re probably not the best but having one is certainly better than not.

Here’s a link to the recall

These are not the recalled model with plastic handles. The description says these have steel handles.

Quick Google search and I found same item at Home Depot for $30.00. 2 pack.

$2.50 off for prime members, making this ever so slightly cheaper and unlike home depot, you can get these shipped for free. Home depot requires $45 minimum for shipping.

Clearly this is not a no-brainer deal; but if you need one and don’t feel like driving to the store, this isn’t over-priced like many of Woot’s postings.

“Servicing” a fire extinguisher isn’t something that residential customers do. It’s something that businesses do where they are legally required to have some number of fire extinguishers per square foot or near anything potentially flammable or whatever. At your house, you have a fire extinguisher or two in the kitchen and garage and hopefully replace them when they expire. Nobody “services” them.

I HIGHLY recommend having more than just two of the small ones for your house. We had the motor of an electronic sofa catch fire (a reclining sofa with a motor to raise and lower the legs). I had two small fire extinguishers this size and it took both of them to put out the fire. Fortunately, by the grace of God, it didn’t catch anything beyond just that end of the sofa on fire and the carpet was singed, but did not ignite. So we had to throw out the sofa and replace the carpet in the room, but if we hadn’t had fire extinguishers, by the time the fire department got here, we would have lost at least that side of the house. (They took a stunningly-long time to get here. I had the fire out by the time they arrived, but they were able to ventilate most of the smoke out for us.)

I have two of these under the sink in the kitchen, two in the garage, and two in the laundry room. It is also important to make sure that all family members know where the fire extinguishers are and (if age-appropriate) know how to use them.

Had an outlet catch fire due to a crappy plug. Thankfully I didn’t need the extinguisher to put it out but it’s certainly made me buy one pretty fast. I don’t care if people buy this one or not, but they really need to have some type of game plan for a fire. So many needless deaths every single year.

What is the expiration date on these?

I’ve had two small kitchen fires. One of these might have put them out. But I wouldn’t bet on it. For household use, get something with at least 5 lbs of dry chemical. These have 2.5 lbs.

These ones at Woot would most likely be best suited to keeping in your car, boat etc where it’s not practical to have something larger.

On the other hand, if this is the only extinguisher you can get… Better than nothing!

We bought these fire extinguishers a couple weeks ago when they were offered. They arrived in poor packaging. Both fire extinguishers were empty when they arrived. The safety rings came off in transit and they went off inside the boxes and cheap plastic bag they were sent in. It was a huge mess. I contacted Woot and they did NOTHING!!!. DO NOT BUY THESE.

Hi there. I’m sorry for the problem with the extinguishers. I see that you did a self-return. You would have received a return authorization from us and a return label from UPS. Make sure you check your spam/junk email for those. If you don’t find them, reach out to Woot! Customer Service.

I already purchased this a few offerings ago and replaced our charged yet expired fire extinguisher. Just the thought of having a fire and being fully prepared is very calming. I avoid all furniture that has electronics since when I was growing up my sister caught our couch on fire. It went up so fast. All that very flammable material constructed with electronics does not coincide together. I’m sure manufacturers that include reclining models or such use less flammable materials however how much of a real difference would that make once its set a flame? Seconds! Not worth the risk if you ask me.

Why stop with furniture!? You’re house may be made of very flammable WOOD! Quick everyone! To the caves! Rock doesn’t burn!

(All in jest)

Mechanical furniture also gives me the willies, but for a different reason. I was always terrified it would malfunction and crush me or grind me up. Forget Skynet, we need to worry about LazyBoy!

No mention of the rating. It is rated 1-A, 10 B C. If you need more than that run out and CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. I fought fire for three years and actually had to walk over dead folks who tried to fight fires before neighbors called us.

It’s in the images (but a little hard to see the classification). Here’s the website for more details.
