Spend the extra $10 and get the current version. You lose a little on the screen resolution, but get a better processor and, more importantly, expandable storage. Even the 16gb version of these tablets if you are going to install apps on them fill up very fast!

My husband bought me a six inch Fire from Woot last month and just now bought me the Kindle Fire HD 7" Wi-Fi Tablet. I love these things! I am constantly hooked up to it listening to Audible books or reading the text of a book. These are the awesome bomb! Everybody should have one or two. LOL

agree, would be a kids toy worth about $20 max at this point

2nd generation.

I look forward to when WooT offers 5th generation Kindle Fire HD.

5th generation is the only one that can run my videos and browser to the Chromecast port on my TV.

Gen 5 at Amazon for $50 (8GB) or $70 (16GB) in your choice of colors no less. Plus 15% off if you buy two. That drives the 16GB version down to $60. Not exactly $10 more, but free shipping. If you can use two it sounds like a better deal all around. New vs refurb, $15 extra to remove “special offers.”

Do NOT get the new device. The processor is slower and it has fewer features. I got the Fire 7 in Dec. and it is slower than my 6 year old Nook Color with Cyanogenmod 10 on it. That is not an exaggeration. This tablet is better IMO. Here are the two
