Kindle wont let you download the Barnes and noble application, vice versa.
Is it possible to use this Kindle Fire tablet on the Verizon 4G network or is it locked into ATT?
Half right. Amazon doesn’t have a Nook app (just checked from a 7" Fire HDx), but I’ve got the Kindle app on my Nook HD+
It’s not locked to AT&T, but it only works on GSM, so in the US you’re stuck with AT&T or T-Mobile (e: and subcarriers/MVNOs that offer “data-only”) and only AT&T for 4g.
Is this the latest Kindle Fire HD from 8.9" lineup?
Also, can this be used outside USA with a GSM operator sim card?
No, it’s the HD rather than the HDx. still seems like a pretty neat thing, if you don’t already have a similar thing.
I do own nexus 7 and Note 10.1" 4G so, I guess it won’t be any better than Note…
Thanks for info!
Sorry its ATT only. Verizon and ATT are not compatible.
My nook also has a kindle app. Amazon is a bit more locked down, though.
I don’t yet have the Amazon Prime streaming option, though.
Is there a Facetime app to video chat with my daughter in college or is Skype the only app available for the kindle fire?
Although you can sideload the application from the Google Play store and it works just fine.
Neither. Facetime isn’t available but there are other options, including ooVoo, FriendCaller, and Tango.
FYI, I had the second gen Kindle Fire HD 7". When plugged in and charging, the device would generate ghost touches when you are using the device. This would cause very weird and undesirable effects when trying to scroll, zoom, or even just tap and it’s a known/common issue.
I don’t know if this model has the same issues, but it’s frustrating enough for me to avoid purchasing another Kindle.
I’ve got the Kindle Fire HDX 8.9" and I like it. From what I’ve seen it compares favorably to other brand-name tablets. I recommend it often. I’m not sure if there are any significant differences between the HD and the HDX although the price for the Woot reconditioned model is very attractive. For many people the low price of the Woot HD might overcome objections based upon a few small improvements that are featured in the HDX. In any case, this is a good deal.
I have the HDX, so I’m not sure if what I’m about to say WHOLY applies, but on that Kindle Fire, you can allow apps from other sources in the settings, so I just downloaded the 1Mobile Market store and have been able to use several apps not in the Amazon store, including SnapChat and Instagram. I can’t imagine it would be much more difficult to do on the HD.
