I got an HDX off woot a but back, and once you sideload some older versions of apps onto it, it works reasonably well as a media device. Speakers are also pretty good.
I need to find a place like Woot! where I can say “let me know when you get tablets with cellular and wifi and 32G memory, and reserve one for me; unless it totally sucks I’ll buy it…” 'Cause I have to WORK to pay off my “discretionary spending” here, so I’m not always able to see the best stuff before it gets snapped up!
I paid 200 for mine back in 2016 on CL brand new and this mfker has a blue tint on the side of the screen. Barley used it
Superb for streaming Amazon Prime for one person. Excellent resolution (1920x1200 is better than most tablets and as good as an iPAD retina screen) as in no individual pixels. At 2.2GHz speed it is similar to the legendary NVidia Shield. In those important categories, it still more than holds up in 2021.
But the Fire OS is upgradable only to 4.5.5.3 the equivalent of Android OS 4.4. That IS severely limiting (potentially even crippling) if your app requires incrementally higher OS versions. If you are not trying to game on it, then this was an excellent buy. I still use mine often.
It is just the right size in portability and wonderful as a reader on planes or in bed, for downloading a film for viewing later, or streaming, For modern games, you may be very, VERY frustrated despite the very fast CPU. The current Amazon HD tablets are slower and have far lower resolution. A pity they ceded the high end market to Apple. Their specs were actually better even for years post intro.
Received my “Used - Acceptable” HDX tablet. Ordered it for my 8 year old. Cosmetically it’s definitely acceptable, however the battery is junk. Can’t leave it unplugged for more than 10 minutes or it dies. Having to keep it plugged in constantly isn’t “acceptable” in my opinion, but for $20 it isn’t worth my time to return it. Woot wins again… …
I ordered the 64gb, WiFi+ATT Cellular version but received a WiFi only model. Anyone receive a Cellular version and ordered a WiFi version?
Hi there. Keep in mind that you have to provide your own SIM (and data plan) for cellular. You’ve checked the settings?
