I bought 3 of these for my kids for Christmas, and they love them! You can load MP3’s on them, but can’t see the songs/audio books, so the files play in alphabetical order. You can skip to the next track, but not backwards. The Kindle interface is great, and works nicely. The device will actually read many books loaded from your library, as long as you don’t mind the robotic text to speech voice. I give these devices a 7/10 for what they do, and their features.

Does this have a backlight so you can read in the dark?

No, there is no light – no front-light or back-light.

i love this thing. i prefer the keyboard over the touchscreen because i find tactile buttons more responsive. good battery life & mine actually came with 3g support! also text to speech support for some books. i plug this thing into the aux port on my car and listen to my books!

What generation is this?

No. But you can buy a little book light.

I believe all of the Kindle Keyboards are considered to be 3rd generation. They really didn’t change the keyboard model after release, opting instead to move to the touch screens.

That said, I love my Kindle Keyboard. I’m in for two, just for the spare parts… It cost me $80 to replace the screen on one that was smacked around in my luggage. $15 is a much better deal for parts.

Dangnabbit! I’m never quick enough to get me one of these! :slightly_frowning_face:

DUDE! It ran for over an hour!

Just got my Kindle - very basic and older technology, but very satisfied for $15!! Reading some of my books already.

The one I got today is the 3G model! And it seems to work!

I got mine but there was no USB cable included. Thankfully, I had one lying about. Charged quickly and wireless works fine.

I received mine and it has hairline cracks at the corners of the screen and something loose inside that rattles. USB connection is unstable as well. Not super happy about it because it’s obvious it has been dropped. No idea what “refurbished” means if they don’t fix the case, it seems they only factory reset the device.

I’m really sorry to hear that. If your Kindle isn’t working properly please contact Customer Service to report the issues.

I ended up with a Kindle touch. No complaint here for $15. All the same features and it seems to work well. A couple case scratches which means I don’t even need to be extra careful with it!

For posterity: just got mine, and it is obviously a refurb with a few little screen scratches (visible at angles but doesn’t affect reading at all) and very lightly worn keys. Plus case wasn’t completely snapped closed when I got it. Arrived with USB cable & charger. Works well however and certainly no complaints for the price.

Mine arrived today. 3G, no ads. Scratch on the screen that isn’t bad but there is a blister under the screen that is driving me crazy. Looks like melted black plastic on the white screen : (

the battery only lasted 2 days. I think I have a bad one but then I think the wifi was on. I’ll have to see how to turn it off and recharge it and try again.
