these need to have somewhere in the specs whether they are able to fit 4" 8" or center only sink drillings. I want it for 4" and one source says they are for 8 (mfr. site)

These tend to be the single-hole style, where everything goes through the center hole. 4" or 8" doesn’t matter at that point, but it comes with a 10" deck plate cover at the bottom that you may need to find a shorter alternative for.
The size of the hole can be an issue, however. Some sinks with 4" centerset have smaller holes than those with an 8" centerset.
One wouldn’t know until the existing faucet is removed, however.
