Last time you ate at a mall food court?
What’s a mall?
1995
I’ve been to a mall this past year but the food courts aren’t the greatest today
Not really but more like 20-some years for me
Our mall didn’t have much of a food court, and there were better restaurants nearby. So, my most consistent memory of food courts comes from High school field trips. Somehow, it was educational to drive a hundred miles and go to a huge mall. Apparently, the teachers needed a work-paid shopping trip. Those were different days.
I have to watch 80’s and 90’s movies to remember what malls were like as a teen. They were the ultimate hang out spot for people too young to drink. Before internet killed the mall. We were mall rats!
Oh it’s been forever I think it may be at least 10 years lol but I grew up in nj we had a cheese stake place that I went to or pizza but jersey mikes is the closest thing to that currently near where I live and it’s so worth it every time I get to go.
I think I got bubble tea a few years ago and maybe a coffee a couple of years ago?
About a decade, there’s a Chinese Buffet in walking distance of my closest one, so guess where I’m going . Shame I only came on vacation to the US in their heyday so I didn’t get to use it as a hangout spot.
I’ve been to the mall two times in the last few years, but I think last time I ate at one was about ten years ago.
Not there, had at restaurant
People were wearing JNCO jeans and Whoppers were $0.99.
Edit:
Made in America was still a thing for Walmart. Craftsman Tools were Made in the USA. Montgomery Ward was still around as was Circuit City. Babbage’s, Sam Goody… Physical media… Now I’m depressed at what has been lost.
Malls have lost their anchor stores like Macy’s and Sears. Decaying along with Food Courts. San Francisco developers just sold a mall at a 75% loss. But people DO want to shop and eat with friends and family. In many cities, blocks of moderately expensive eateries mixed with farmers markets have been purposely encouraged to develop into districts.
Here’s a thriving one in Seattle: Pike’s Place Market
Another in the Midwest: North Market Columbus (note - sushi + Thai!)
Not the mall food of our youth and no longer cheap eats: Lobster Roll?!
