LED Bulbs

Limit 3 per customer… LOL… For the customers that only have 3 lights in their kitchen.

Can someone explain this “Incandescent Equivalent” thing to me?

The “750 Lumen LED Light Bulb” claims to be “75 Watt Incandescent Equivalent”. Yet we can see that a normal 75 Watt Incandescent bulb (http://www.amazon.com/GE-41032-48-75-Watt-White-48-Pack/dp/B00AB4NODK/) produces 1,170 lumens–way more than 750.

In fact, a normal 60 watt bulb (http://www.amazon.com/GE-Lighting-41028-60-Watt-4-Pack/dp/B000BPILBY/) produces 850 lumens.

So how is a LED bulb that is dimmer than a 60 W Incandescent be equivalent to 75 watt?

Thanks for your ‘enlightening’ information. Your comparison is exactly what I needed in order to make an informed decision- to pass on this item & await something similar, with more lumens.

Comparing Incandescent vs. CLF’s vs. LED bulbs is tricky, especially when you consider “color temperature” (i.e. dimmer/brighter or warmer/softer, etc.) The two links below may be helpful:

Also, efficacy is more important than efficiency. LEDs can create.less lumens (efficiency) yet deliver more to the room (efficacy).

But yes these bulbs are weak. I only buy either super high rated bulbs on amazon or Cree bulbs. There’s too much garbage out there that doesn’t deliver on their promise and get dimmer over time. Check Amazon. There are better, cheaper bulbs. 8pack of Cree 60 watt equivalent for 8 bucks a bulb. Feit 3 pack decorative bulbs are nice too.

When you are looking at Lumens regarding Halogen or Incandescent bulbs, you must understand that much of the lumens is rated in either heat, or non directional light. The reason LED lights are so much more efficient than other sources of light bulbs is because of the lack of heat and the directional aspect of the light (the lumens or amount of light is not waisted). If an incandescent or halogen bulb has 1170 lumens, than the LED 750 lumens is the appropriate lumens comparison.

I encourage you to take advantage of these prices before they’re gone.

I encourage you to test the bulbs you’re talking about…especially the Feit

Rob: On the picture of the box for the ELY08D-2PS40-VB PAR20 400 Lumen, it says “Indoor.” Yet, the description says it’s Outdoor. Please clarify.

I can;t find any reviews for the
Sylvania 75267 LED Outdoor Wall Fixture. Can anyone find a review?

Garbage deals,
and I’ve been following the LED market for a while now after replacing every bulb and recessed fixture during a remodel.

Cree bulbs are less, and outperform these all day. You can even get a high CRI (Color Rendering Index) version. Look for 90 or above. Colors are much better than 80-ish bulbs (and waaay better than CFLs).
The Big Orange Box has them for $8 (apparently a newer model

Several other brands are also more competitive.

For something that is expected to last decades, go with something with a solid warranty and reputation.

As has become usual here on woot, no deal here. You can get LED bulbs for less at IKEA. Home Depot also had sales with better deals. Not to mention you won’t be limited to only 3 bulbs and you can easily return the bulb.

These are both indoor and outdoor rated as well as damp location. They cannot be directly exposed to elements such as water or snow. Otherwise, the bulbs should be okay both indoor and outdoor.

I encourage you to look at quality over pricing. It can make a very big difference in your satisfaction.

The Cree prices vary a lot based on where you are; the power companies in some places are subsidizing them, and they are as cheap as $3.50 there.

I was in home depot today and the cree bulbs were ~$10

If the bulbs aren’t rated for totally enclosed fixtures, I don’t see why anyone should be interested.

I have several brands of LED bulbs in my house, Feit Elec is good, as is Cree. The CRI and K temperature are more important than price, especially since they last for years. I wouldn’t get any of these, I like the 4k bulbs with CRI over 91.

Some of these wall mount interior lights are ALOT cheaper on a major shopping site that starts with an A.
