Sounds like a Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E8400 launched back in 2008. See CPU Benchmark and CPU Boss.

Is CPU years, does this CPU qualify for a retirement fund?

It’s still a capable machine for web browsing and word processing. I have a E8600 (3.33 GHz) and my wife watches youtube on it.

You’re also getting Windows 7 Pro with it as well. (Too bad the free Windows 10 upgrade expired.)

Put an SSD in it (mine has a 120 GB) and you won’t regret it.

Despite the age, this thing still scores a passmark of 2175, while it might not be mindblowing, it is still on par with a lot of the current low power laptop chips. These things are great for cheap media centers. Throw a 120gb ssd for the OS on there, and I use it for Kodi and windows mediacenter. If you want a more powerful slim videocard for this, they can be had for $20-$30 on Ebay (not for gaming, but for better mediacenter performance). Basically it can fill a niche for cheap that doesn’t require high processing demands.

How can this have two pci express ports and two pci ports when it only has two slots on the back of the case? I’m guessing this is the model with one pci express and one pci.

I have two of these exact machines running Windows 7 Pro. I upgraded one of them to 8GB RAM and it is currently sitting in my living room as a multimedia PC with a bluetooth keyboard for the TV. My wife uses it to watch streaming video with no issues over Gigabit Ethernet. Its size makes it fit in nicely with other video devices on the cabinet.

We are even using it as a Minecraft server for my sons and their friends.

The only downside is that the DisplayPort video connector does not support HDMI audio, so I had to use the built-in sound card and send the audio to our HT system that way. Otherwise, it is a capable system.

Oh, additional RAM cannot have tall heat spreaders because the DVD drive is too close above the DIMM slots. DIMMs must be standard height.

I bought one of these in Spring here on Woot, as it was cheaper than buying an official copy of Win 7.
Did not even last until July. Just up and died.

Does it come with Windows 7(Pro) CD/DVD disk ?

No. Very few computers come with media any more. They may have a restore partition on the hard drive or you can order media from the manufacturer.

Thank you ms. TT
Have a wonderful day!

Anyone know if you can replace the DVD with a Blu-Ray drive?

For $17 I used this card http://www.ebay.com/itm/DELL-AMD-RADEON-HD-6450-1GB-DDR3-SDRAM-Video-Graphics-Card-0WH7F-W-DISPLAY-PORT-/322239402035?hash=item4b06f71033:g:nj8AAOSwnQhXpQgf this connector for $7 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018SGIIAQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I hook up a regular HDMI cable and the sound comes through the HDMI fine.

Yes-It’s a standard 5.25" optical drive. It flips up, just unscrew and insert your Bluray drive. Don’t forget you need software for reading movies. Some drives don’t come with it.

Did I miss the detail regarding which specific M58 variant this is? When looking at RAM on the Crucial website there are M58, M58e, and M58P, and within those three models are dozens of numeric Type variants, e.g. M58 Type 3231. Thanks!

Thanks for pointing that out. Confirmed to have 1 pci express and 1 pci, the specs have been updated.

I have a M58P with windows 7. Upgraded to 8gb RAM, bought a used Intel Q9650 3.0gz quadcore processor, and added a NVIDA GeForce 210, larger quicker HD,and a firewire adapter. Less than $200 in it (used parts) and it’s been going strong for about 3 years. Graphics card is the worst part but I have no issues streaming HD to my 50inch Samsung. Also run Protools 8 with a Digi003 rack without issue.
