How is this different then the 11e Woot has been selling all summer for $269.99? Specs all look the same…

It appears that the main difference is the $80 higher price.

Anyway, did the previous one also have a touch screen?

These are the G2. I believe the others were earlier versions.

Is the keyboard backlit?

What are the specs for this?

I got the previous one for $249 or so. I have a touch screen, and an Atom CPU.

After some searching the difference is a faster processor. Otherwise they are identical in specs.

Mine is identical except for the processor. I have the:

Intel Celeron N2940 1.83GHz (Burst up to 2.25GHz)
2MB Cache
PassMark ranks mine at a 1763 (rank 1342)

This one has:
Intel Core M-5Y10C 0.8GHz (Burst up to 2.00GHz)
4MB Cache
PassMark ranks this at a 2809 (rank 972)

Why is this listing on Amazon less expensive for a 3rd gen model: amazon

Not backlit.

The specs are on the specs tab.

Slower CPU at amazon.

I bought one of the Celeron versions from a previous sale for around $289. Best low priced notebook I’ve ever bought. I ended up getting 1 for each of my kids and the wifey too. My kids beat the heck out of them and they just keep working. My only knock on the celeron version is the battery life. It appears the Core M has nearly double the battery life so I am very tempted to grab one for myself for xmas. I strongly recommend these for anyone with kids. Don’t make the same mistake I made by buying them a cheaply made retail special. They are plastic trash and will break at the smallest fall. This thing is a a little tank and its clearly made to take a beating.

Ditto to Jago3825 comments. We have two of the earlier (G1?) Woot! models and they are great for kids (I’ve borrowed them from time to time). They run quiet, run long, and not too hot.

I got the earlier model for my wife and it has been running well overall. Been having some issues lately where it freezes up completely and has to be rebooted. Nothing gets written to the event log so no error messages to be seen. I updated the video drivers a few weeks ago and the freezes have been less frequent but still happening.

OK, I have 2 of the other CPU, and when speed and ratings were mentioned I thought, “Meh. The one for $100 less has been zippy and fine for watching Netflix and general net surfing” But your mention of battery life being double–that catches my attention. What sort of battery life have you been getting with the older model?

Look at that crap resolution.
