something cool :expressionless:

Son with multiple disabilities had one of these and it worked very well for his needs. Being able to switch between tablet mode and laptop mode was a great feature of the device. We just had a bit of a learning curve with Windows 10, because he was used to Apple iOS.

Sadly, like with any electronic devices, saliva will fry it in no time flat. The special warranty we bought did not cover damage by drooling. (He has CP.)

So, it’s a pretty rugged device and performed well for what we needed, but we are still in search of something that is sealed against liquids.

To the lit keyboard person: No it doesn’t have a backlit keyboard.

To the resolution person: Though not “full hd” the resolution is fine for a screen this size.

I have the G2 version. It’s good for watching videos, and general web searching. I added a larger SSD, and I swapped out the RAM for an 8GB chip.

It works nicely, and I travel with it despite the weight. it’s beefy, but well built.

If anyone is wondering, this runs Linux very well – I have Debian Stretch on mine, and all of the hardware is supported.

I also like that it has a built in NIC.

Sounds great; would love to not have to de-install the Redmond virus (or have to pay for it, for that matter).

what is the model number?

more than 3 pounds for this? Quite a little brick. Only saves me a pound from my full 14" lenovo with 16 gig ram , backlit keyboard and graphics chip.

With the specs of the for sale system (windows 10 with 4GB Ram? ugh) Not sure it is worth it when I am looking for a more portable alternative

Does anybody know if this would be a decent note taking device? I don’t want to give more of my money to the fruit company out of Cupertino…

It took you 9 years to post? Don’t be a stranger!

I bought this during an earlier sale. Not a bad price for a 2 in 1 computer…but don’t expect too much. It’s still pretty clunky as far as laptops go. I get regular hangups when simply browsing the web (which is it’s primary use). Seems to perform quite a bit better in tablet mode, however. The touch screen is very responsive.

I can’t bring myself to buy anything Lenovo, until they get their act together and stop spying on their customers. They have been the subject of scrutiny around pre-installed bloatware of one sort or another ever since IBM sold them. It’s really a shame, because the performance of every Lenovo I had in the past was actually pretty good.

FWIW, IMHO you’re just as well off doing without a slight bit of screen real estate, buying a cheap tablet in the 10-10.5" range, & using a Bluetooth keyboard when/if needed.

Practically speaking you don’t have to worry about the added weight of the keyboard when you don’t want/need it, don’t have to worry about the hinge breaking, can easily replace the keyboard, or get one that’s nicer, can get a full 1080p screen, often one that works with an active stylus, and you may save yourself $100 or more. [e.g. the NuVision tablet Microsoft’s been selling for $150]

That said, either way, with a cheap tablet or this model Yoga, you’re getting a Very slow processor. It’s usable for light weight stuff, but updates to 10 for example can put you out of commission for a few hours if you run Disk Cleanup afterward, & with small storage you should. There’s also the question of Intel driver support, which may be iffy since they got out of the mobile market – a problem I’ve had with an older Windows tablet.

Long story short, if you can afford it, you’re Much better off with an i5, or at least an i3.

  1. Get Macrium Reflect Free, create a Windows 10 Boot USB stick with it, then back up the hard drive.

  2. Optionally take note of what drivers are used [in Device Mgr.], & also optionally copy the Windows\ System32\ DriverStore folder to a USB stick. If the Windows Update database doesn’t have one or more drivers, this is where you’ll find them.

  3. Install Windows 10 fresh.

FWIW might try browsers in battery saving mode when available, e.g. Opera. Using an ad blocker helps, A LOT. Try turning off graphics hardware acceleration in the browser. And finally, Edge does seem to perform better on these lowest powered CPUs.

is tablet mode supported?

From what I’ve read the screens that work with an active stylus are most popular for students taking notes. With the improvements MS is adding to Ink, using an active stylus for that sort of thing does work pretty well in my experience.

I bought one of these in Feb 2016 from woot, they were for sale then quite frequently, (3 or 4 times) common sense should have told me to stay away, because if something is constantly for sale (list $799,sale $269) it’s probably wise to stay away, but the comments section sucked me in, it was highly commented on and very favorably reviewed, so I bit the hook. I broke 2 rules of common sense: 1. If something seems too good to be true it probably is, and 2. You get what you pay for. This product is in the top 3 worst purchases I’ve made in my adult life, and now another version rears its ugly head. If I was a wealthy person I’d smash this thing with a hammer just for the satisfaction it would give me. If you enjoy being annoyed by consumer electronics, buy one, it will be one of the most fulfilling experiences of your life. This wonderful little laptop is the last purchase I made on woot, that’s how great it is.

If woot wants it back they can gladly have it, I still have the original packaging.

CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!
