LG External USB 3.0 Blu-Ray Rewriter

Great price for this but does anyone really need it? I still have spindles of DVD’s and a DVD cloner sitting in a closet. The early 2000’s are just over. Now you buy TB drives for $29 (which would hold 20-30 Discs of BR content uncompressed. Everything else you would use it for, you can stream.

Does it come with the software? Features mentions “the new Power BD-DVD 3D software bundle”, but software is not mentioned in the ‘Specs/In the box’ section.

I was all excited about this until A) I saw that you have to use an external power source (i.e. not USB-powered) and B) I found the slimmer Buffalo Blu-Ray burner (BRXL-PT6U2VB) for $10 less on Amazon.

“Superior data protection with M-DISC™ Support
The M-DISC™uses a patent rock-like recording surface instead of organic dye to etch your data onto a disc. The M-DISC has been tested and proven to outlast standard DVDs currently on the market.”

I can’t tell if this means you can only use the special M-DISC in this device. Or if you can also use ordinary recordable DVDs.

Here’s the manual.

It can read and write four
types of disc formats:

  1. DVD+R
  2. RW DVD-R
  3. RW DVD-RAM
  4. Blu-Ray Disc

Looks like M-Disc is a manufacturer of media: http://www.mdisc.com/

Sorry for the delayed reply. Vendor confirmed these do come with the software.
