What is a Lodge 12" Cast Iron Gill Pan? I typically only cook the fillet and toss the gills. Am I missing out on a delicacy?
Had a couple of the Lodge Silicone Pot Holders in my cart, and then noticed the “Protects hands from heat up to 250-degrees Fahrenheit” in the description.
I don’t know what pot holders are typically rated at, but that seems pretty low.
Are the dutch ovens enameled or non-enameled?
I’d guess “non”, considering that the description touts this product as being “a great source of nutritional iron”.

I think the limit just means that you shouldn’t leave the potholder on when you put it in the oven.
I got some in a previous Woot. It works as well and is just as safe as any potholder. Better - because it fits the handle snugly.
You wouldn’t want to be holding on the molten metal for a long duration.
The dutch ovens are non-enameled. On the negative side, you can’t throw them in the dishwasher. On the positive side, you don’t have to worry about enamel cracking or any other durability issues. As long as you don’t let the thing get rusty, it’ll be just as good 100 years from now as it’ll be tomorrow!
Lodge Silicon Assist Handle Cover
I actually just used one of these this week-end. I have a 12 quart stock pot with a curved handle on the lid. The handle got hot. I stuck this on and was able to leave it there the whole time I simmered my chili. It was GREAT! No searching for a hot pad or burning my hand.

It says 450 degrees on the silicone, not 250. I bought one for my skillet a while back and it works great. I haven’t used it in the oven yet though. I think that’s what the 450 degree rating is though, for putting it in the oven.
