I was an early adopter of Lumo Lift. It was ok at best. I mean for what it was trying to accomplish, it did pretty well. A little device that tried to detect slight deviations in angle to figure out if you’re slouching. Pretty impressive!
But it only works for “leaning over” slouching. It doesn’t work for lower back posture issues.
It worked better as a mental reminder. The act of putting it on and getting buzzed once a day was better than its actual ability to monitor your slouching. The app notifications were also a good positive reinforcement.
Overall, though, it didn’t do a great job at monitoring actual posture. And sometimes it became downright annoying and I’d take it off. Like cooking. Try to cook with perfect upright posture! But Lumo Lift didn’t take into consideration transitioning/moving vs static posture. So leaning over to stir something would buzz you to the point of madness.
In the end, my wife and I used our lumo lifts pretty much daily for a 3-6 month period before we got bored and tired of its inaccuracies. No lasting changes in posture or habits.
There’s a product called LumoBack that helps detect and correct bad lower back posture.
Also, you can set the delay to buzz you at longer intervals if you’re doing something like cooking, or just turn it off temporarily (it will still count steps even if it’s not buzzing you for posture).
Thanks so much for reaching out. We’re so sorry to hear you had some difficulty with your Lift monitoring your posture! We have some really great tips and tricks on getting your Lift to give you the most accurate feedback.
First, please wear the Lumo Lift next to your collarbone, about an half-an-inch to an inch below it, mid-way between tip of shoulder and your neck. This position ensures that your Lift will not only feel a position in which you’re leaned over, but also when there is shoulder movement.
Second, try wearing your Lumo Lift with snug fitting clothes. Loose clothes cause inaccurate readings because the Lift ends up tracking your garment instead of your body.
Third, align your Lift multiple times a day. Many users have found that the lack of buzzing is due to a lack of alignment, We recommend aligning every time you enter a posture you suspect you might be in a while, such as when you sit down at work, or when you move to a new room. Reminder, to align, sin good posture and double click against your body to align. You will feel three buzzes, which confirm the alignment.
Fourth, your Coach Vibrations setting may be set to high. To edit your coach vibrations visit Menu -> Coach Vibrations. We recommend setting it to 30 seconds or less. In general - you want coach vibrations to be set to 3, 5, 10 or 30 seconds in the first few weeks of operation.
