Probably cheap steel and the first bump will chip the ceramic coating and then it starts rusting away. And they should have put “ear” handles on the sides of the lid, instead of a loop handle on top, then it could be used in the basement/ pantry on a shelf out of sight. It is decorated to be in the kitchen but I’m not giving up over one full square foot of counter space just to have potatoes at arm’s length. Mine are staying in the basement - even in a modern “split level” it’s at least 5° cooler down there. This would simply replace the cardboard box that only lasts about 4-5 months, but I actually was blessed with my Grandmother’s “potato crock” - yeah they had those back then. It looks just like a pickling crock (over 5 gallons size) except it was made with two staggered rows of holes running around the bottom and a row around the edge of the lid. Good ventilation, stays dark and “chilled”. Haven’t seen one “fresh made” in over forty years.
And yet…
