i haven’t had any problems with mine, but i just got it as sort of a backup anyway. IMO, it’s a good price for something to just kick around the house for emergencies or whatever.
i originally set it up as a repeater for my existing wireless router, but i didn’t really have any need for it, so i put it away.
my pasture’s just not that big. :stuck_out_tongue:

sytrino: I haven’t ever had a problem with either of my microsoft routers. They only took 5 minutes to setup and they work great.

These are excellent routers… and more so for the price!!!

Definitely a buy!

Certainly better than the linksys garbage.

Just my opinion

  1. Got two…one to replace the linksys which has crapped out on me dozens of times…which supposed to replace the first one with factory defect. This better work

Sytrino,

For what it’s worth, I went through two of these, as well as perhaps five hours on the phone with tech support. With shipping and most recent firmware versions, the router seems to have trouble when a lot of traffic is headed out to many IPs (with perhaps) port forwarding enabled. I never had any trouble with LAN traffic going through the router, though.

After anywhere from 8-24 hours, the router would freeze… the lights would remain on, but then wireless and wired connections would stop working. Initially, DNS requests would fail. A moment after that, all LAN and WAN activity would stop. The router would become unpingable via any means and would need to be unplugged. After that, it would be fine for another 8-24 hours.

It was stable for weeks if there wasn’t heavy traffic to and from the WAN port. (Standard web page browsing was fine… it only had trouble when a lot more traffic was thrown at it.) Port forwarding may have had something to do with it, but nobody seems to be sure. There have been a few posts on the MS broadband networking newsgroups and broadbandreports about this issue. MS tech support escalated it to the highest level, then suggested sending the (replaced) router back for a refund. They thought it might be a bug in the firmware, but had no workaround.

Again, though, for light WAN traffic, (probably even heavy LAN traffic) it should be OK.

When it did work, signal strength seemed fine enough. It was replaced with a Buffalo WBR2-G54 (roughly a WRT-54G). The Buffalo puts out a bit of a weaker signal, but hasn’t crashed in five months.

Hope this does help,
Andy

Hello everyone,
Quick question, can a MAC (with 802.11b) connect to this router even though it is from Microsoft?
