I’m assuming this doesn’t work with any other type of player, right?
You assume correctly.
This works a hundred times better then the first POS Zune car pack.
Picked up two the last time woot had these for sale and they work great.
Does this allow you to set the frequency, or simply choose from a pre-determined number of frequencies?
yep, just zunes.
I got this back when sellout had it in May (right after I got a 120 gig Zune elsewhere). I use it mostly as a car charger, since I have aux input for my car.
The fm transmitter works ok, but I only tested it in a saturated area.
Plug it into the car charger, and it hooks to the bottom of the Zune, but you can still use the headphone/aux jack at the top of the zune.
Anyone else disappointed with these? I purchased one of these in May, on woot, and tried it out on a road trip recently, unless I drove with the zune in my lap with the cord wrapped around the shifter, it would not pick up at all. I guess the cable from the zune to this device is the antenna, if I moved the zune any… static. Tried tons of stations with no luck. The $4 FM transmitters ( http://www.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=2332187 ), I also have from woot work much better.
It is differentially tunable in 0.1MHZ steps. It is really not to bad.
anybody have any info on the dashboard grip pad. I could use something to hold the zune in while in the car so i could easily skip songs and such.
This should work with the upcoming Zune HD too because it has the same connector.

This is exactly my experience - it will not even pick up the Zune on any station unless I hold it just right.
Mine worked great in my parking lot… then it went to c.r.a.p!
It’s a great car charger though… it’ll be a plus for you if music goes through the receiver to your car stereo, good luck!
I’ve used several FM transmitters for mp3 players in the past and even the best ones had feedback. Usually a constant clicking sound that you can hear easily when you have the volume low or between songs.
A direct connect cable is superior by leaps and bounds.
Now if you travel a lot and use rental cars or something, it’s not a bad deal since at least then you are guaranteed to always have a way to play your music through the car.
I bought the 80gb Zune on Woot, but will pass on this. Have two vehicles with AUX inputs so I don’t need the FM transmitter.
Also, if you look on eBay, you can find Car chargers plus extras for less than $10 shipped.
This item is great for those that need to charge and transmit via FM though…
This FM transmitter is atrocious. I purchased one last time it was on sellout.woot. No matter what station I tuned it to, it would not perform any better than occasional static (no matter what headphones are attached or where it’s held), and that was with no other station on the bandwidth. And I didn’t just try it in one area, oh no. I was on a road trip from Madison, WI to Miami, FL, and was not able to make it work acceptably between the two points.
To add insult to injury, after I had nearly abandoned the idea of having it work whatsoever, upon trying it one last time and detaching the two pieces (the transmitter can be magnetically attached to the power source), the magnet which anchors the two came off with the transmitter. I threw the whole thing out after that.
Normally I’d think I just got a bad one, but my brother had nearly the same experience with a transmitter from the same sale. Stay away.
I bought one of these last time, and I’m totally happy with it. It’s a good overall design aesthetic, which I appreciate. The tuner sticks magnetically to the charger, and it comes with one of those friction pads that can do an amazing job holding a Zune in place on a dashboard.
We used this driving Oakland-San Diego and had plenty of good signal. Every so often you reach an area with new radio stations and you have to find a new one. Occasionally we couldn’t find a good signal, but usually it worked fine. It does require an unused frequency, so somewhere like, say, L.A. or downtown New York it won’t do as well.
Very easy interface and setup. Plus it’s a car charger for your Zune even if you don’t use the radio feature.
I have one of these, and it’s terrible. Living in Southern California, there’s pretty much a radio station every .4 frequency and it’s just not powerful enough to push through those signals. Stay away unless you live in an area without many radio stations.
And the slick pad it comes with is amazing, NOTHING MOVES
