Does this have a battery backup?

No, it doesn’t.

If I am on a university network using Comcast (prewired for the whole apartment complex), can I use this modem and order a new service so I don’t need to use the school network (slow, restrictions)?

Boy, I’m not touching that question with a 10’ pole.

I’m all for being techy, but why do people buy their own cable modems instead of just using the one from their provider?

I can only think of two reasons - avoid a monthly fee from the ISP or replace one that broke. Is there a more technical benefit?

Isn’t this about normal price?

I bought it to avoid the monthly fee. In five months, it’ll be worth it.

Thank you for your quick response!
