Be very, very careful with this. While $30 sounds fine, my first Mr. Beer kit ended up costing me much, much more as the homebrew hobby expanded. Now, a homebuilt 3-Keggle brewstand later, I can look back and blame Mr. Beer for all that. Kinda like a gateway drug. Does Mr. Beer make great beer? No. Does it make beer that will make you say, “I can do better!” Absolutely.

Worst beer I’ve ever had was when I was 22 using a Mr Beer kit, making it in my 2 bedroom apartment with my roommate. That was probably our fault, but I doubt this is making anything too tasty. Now, years later, I’ve got my two tap kegerator with two pony’s of homebrew going. Didn’t cost me $30, but what can ya do.

My son bought me one for Father’s Day a few years ago and we had a lot of fun with it. It’s not great beer, but it is a cool learning experience and a nice Father/Son project.

As a homebrewer… its pretty much going to be a one time use thing. If you enjoy homebrewing, this set will be all you need to learn that you need to spend more money to make bigger batches and have more options in the different types of beer you can make. If you don’t like it… it’ll be enough for you to say “I’m never doing that again”.

So, basically, you’re spending $30 for a case of mediocre beer… and you may end up spending a lot more on a full setup.

I’ve had a few Mr Beer beers in the past couple years (haha that rhymes), and I will say the quality has changed considerably. They are much better than they were 20 years ago. Not great, or even good, but they aren’t the almost undrinkable crap they were decades ago.
