I’m sorry, but I keep seeing “bluetooth enabled wench” in the thread and imagining this:
I bought these years ago as part of their Kickstarter campaign, and use it to lift a storage platform in the garage.
Yeah, it’s expensive and a bit of a wacky concept, but I get it, and it makes some nice convenient storage space. It has some… downsides.
The bluetooth on it is very flakey, and only works with certain phones. It refuses to work at all with a Galaxy S7. Never once. Further, you have to Pair it with one specific phone, and can’t use it on any other without starting over. Pairing requires pushing a button on the winch – you see the problem there. Way, up there.
The tandem-sync between the group of motors is cool, and works very well. It has never tilted or dumped the platform at all, so they do stay in lock-step with each other.
The biggest frustration is that it can take up to a minute to “Connect” and “Validate” and “Cogitate” or whatever the app does on startup… just forever to get the group in sync and ready to control. I was hoping they would sell that dedicated controller to mount on the wall, but that plan vanished. It’s faster to get out the ladder than wait for the app to connect.
Once it connects, the pushbutton operation aborts randomly with a connection error, like it doesn’t have reliable Bluetooth.
Over the years, I’ve paired these with at least five or six phones and tablets, and they’re all the same badness, so I can’t blame it on the (Android) devices.
All told, it’s a neat product, just maybe one good firmware update short of success.
A small lighting truss or speaker up in a 20ft ceiling. You can lower it for maintenance without getting a high lift or ladder to access.
Or a wasp nest that you want to lower on someone’s head and not get stung yourself, but, it may be difficult enticing the wasps to build their nest on the winch. Will honey work?
Yup
50 lb capacity … way rules it out
but I’m surprised
I can’t find in the specs
the lift height/ cable length on this thing???
I’m going to guess a highly “useful”
ten feet with the pulley in play???
I find it amazing when people criticize me for misspelling a word - albeit it several times - when half of the freaking internet cannot construct a properly formatted sentence, much less spell it! Just look at farcebook and twit-ter for plenty of examples.
Yes. I misspelled WINCH as WENCH. I know the difference and yes… I use both regularly. I think I did pretty damn good given that it was after midnight and I was at least three sheets to the wind if not four
Can you connect to a pulley with bluetooth?
“I was drunk” is not a good defense, and “other people do other dumb things” is not either. Just sayin’.
I’m gonna go with the simple answer, a screw in light socket power outlet.
I shall strive to be more perfect in the future
I you have an old air-cooled VW with the pancake engine, the one you can lift out by hand and rebuild on the kitchen table, then no, probably not even that. Engine hoists typically have a capacity measured in tons. This will lift .025 ton.
And yet, even though it’s another product that does not need to be bluetoothed, it’s sold out. Well done Woot.
