If I remember correctly, HP Zbooks have recently been popular receipts in these Woot! Mystery Laptops offerings.

Can anyone confirm this?

At times like this, I like to remember that the reason it’s a “mystery” laptop is that if you knew what it was, you wouldn’t buy it.

I keep thinking I should buy these every time they come up and start a “Should I Open It or Keep It Sealed” YouTube channel when I unbox them.

Mystery Laptops…
Good People GIF by ABC Network

It has been said ad nauseam here on Woot! regarding these Mystery Laptops offerings that better deals without the “mystery” can often be found simply by doing a little bit of research and many anecdotal stories have appeared to confirm this. Nevertheless, people continue to buy them. IMHO, they are simply much more expensive BOC and they appeal to the same impulsivity of buyers.

I admit it, I am tempted each time as well, but so far I have been able to allow reason and risk aversion to overrule my curiosity.

I purchased one a few months ago and actually got a decent deal, a Dell Latitude 5520 with a 15.6 inch FHD display, an Intel Core i7-1185G7 quad-core, 32 GB of RAM, and a NVMe 512 GB SSD. It is loaded with Windows 11 and other then a small scratch on the bottom, seemed completely new out of the box.

Similar models were selling on eBay for $300-500.

That sounds pretty good. I really want to get one, but I’d rather just wait for a good deal.

Touch screen? No touch screen?

Any thoughts?

It’s a mystery!

IMHO, if you’re looking for a specific feature, it’s best NOT to consider offers like these.

(Note that I am not staff. I just volunteer to help out on the forums.)

I got a nice HP Zbook laptop. It also had a significant scuff in the middle of the screen that I don’t think should be considered consistent with a Grade A refurbished categorization. I’ve contacted Customer Support.

My wife ordered one, and got a relatively decently spec’d laptop that’s totally infected with Win32/Expiro. It’s a credential-stealing virus, and the only way to get rid of it is to completely blow away the OS and start from scratch.

It’s great that Woot is pre-infecting laptops for their customers (for your convenience!), but I don’t remember the “by the way, your laptop may come with a virus that can ruin your life if you’re dumb enough to log in to your bank’s website” message in the product description.

Sorry about that. The laptops would have been fully wiped and reimaged. I’ll pass this on to our computer team. Please have her reach out to customer service from the account with the purchase.
