Vegans taste great but they tend to be a little gamy
The claim about 60% less saturated fat is true if you’re comparing it to 75% lean ground beef, but most grocery stores carry 85% lean ground beef, at which point, it’s the same amount of saturated fat.
The 4g of fiber is nice, but 15g of total fat seems like quite a lot; you’d expect to find under 5g in a typical 85% lean ground beef burger.
I think you’re forgetting what kind of fat the remaining is after the 1.5g of saturated… That’s a great serving of unsaturated fats which your body very much needs.
So… almost $11.00 a pound? Thought it was cheaper to produce veggies than meat… cool!
What? This is 8 pouches and each pouch is supposed to be used like 1 lb of meat. So, that’s more like $3.75/lb. Cheaper than regular-price hamburger meat, but I can find meat cheaper than that from time to time.
Looking at some reviews of this product, it seems like you used to have to add eggs or vegan eggs to it. These new packages claim to include the vegan egg, but it’s pretty annoying that the instructions to prepare it can’t be found anywhere. Their website doesn’t have instructions, Amazon has some images of the older packages that show the instructions, but not the new ones (with vegan egg).
I guess you just have to add water and stir, but I shouldn’t have to guess. Why hide the instructions (talking about the company, doesn’t seem to be Woot’s fault)?
My fiancee is a vegetarian so I’d like to try this. But to try something new with mixed reviews I’m not going to get the 8 pack for $30. If you were selling a 2-pack I’d go for it, then the 8 if we liked it. Don’t want to throw 6 or 7 packs and $30 in the trash.
Someone commented on the high fat content. Sure, maybe higher than lean beef. But this is nut fat which is much healthier than meat fat. I’m no nutritionist but that’s my interpretation of health news.
I found preparation directions on the Vitacost website for the one with the egg included:
Here is a You Tube review that takes forever to just get to it so FF to about 1:54 to see her make sliders with this:
I’ve been waffling about this offer for hours. I’m not a vegetarian but I do like the occasional veggie burger if it is well made. I have watched several YouTube videos and the only ones where the Neat looked bad are the two where the cooks obviously had no idea what they were doing. Based on the videos, It seems that if you follow directions and know how to cook, then these turn out pretty good. I also like to have a variety of shelf stable foods on hand for emergencies.
BTW, does anyone know why these can’t ship to a PO Box?
