NETGEAR MK63-100NAR Nighthawk Home Mesh WiFi 6 System

NETGEAR MK63-100NAR Nighthawk Home Mesh WiFi 6 System

Anyone else using a mesh system?
I’m using a router from the ISP now. I have great speed now, but I would like to have better coverage.
Also, both of us are retired now. The offices and modem are upstairs, but we spend most of our time downstairs and in the backyard. I could see having one unit upstairs and two downstairs.
Is that a reasonable expectation?

I bought these and they were constantly disconnecting. My return arrived back at Woot this morning so fair warning it’s probably the same ones and THEY ARE DEFECTIVE!

Don’t buy these, but to answer your question, unless you’re running Ethernet between the nodes, you’ll have problems with any mesh system. On an wired backhaul mesh is amazing. All wireless repeaters or wireless backhaul mesh will periodically drop nodes.

I saw a few threads here where people didn’t have any problems with the system bought here. My WiFi router went out and I need something desperately. I hope I don’t get the set you returned.

I have these ( not purchased from Woot) and have had no issues with mine! I am also a senior tech for communications company and tell many customers bought these daily.

Thanks for posting. That offers dinner relief. Do you know if it will hold more then 25 devices?

I used to use a mesh by ASUS, but I outgrew that due to unreliable connections. I have been using eero equipment for a couple years now and I like it a lot. I use 3 nodes and they are all Pro 6e units. Reliable once they optimize the mesh. I tried using the ISP equipment, it was a very locked down experience and the configuration was far from intuitive.

I used to run a dual wifi system, one upstairs and another unit downstairs. This was the old school way prior to mesh, just turning an extra router into a repeater/ access point. Problem is older stuff needed to be wired. I was lucky and picked up a pair of UniFi AC Pro. Neat thing is you don’t have to run a cable (other than PoE) and they “mesh” together. I’m now covered and less wires. Some issues, like TheoLike said is dropping nodes. Another is as you travel between APs you temporarily drop and switch to the new signal. Not sure about THIS system, but a mesh/access point would get you more coverage into the backyard.

I have cable internet, and the signal will often slow down or go out. If I reset it at the wifi router, it will run fast for a few minutes, then slow down badly again.

I’m a total novice at this tech stuff, so I wanted to ask if getting something like this might solve the issue?

I dont have experience with these, but i recently ditched my 2 Netgear routers (different SSID’s) for a pair of refurb ebay Asus RT-AX82U’s. They are both set as APs in mesh mode. My ISP equipment is a router/gateway, so i leave it alone. My wireless is handled by the Asus. I was having connection issues with my previous Netgear tri-band router, and the higher 5ghz band was interfering with my JBL sounbar wireless sub. It also seemed to lose wireless speed over time. Random speed tests would show that speeds would taper off until i disconnected/reconnected. These Asus have been perfect for me- max speeds all the time, no connection issues and the mesh has been great. I also like the Asus app a lot better than the Nighthawk app- lots more features and control ability.
Not sure about the MK63, but after getting the Asus i dont think I’ll go bak to netgear.
Also check to see if they are compatible with other Netgear mesh routers. Asus has a mesh system that allows a lot of their routers to work together in mesh, sort of mix-and-match. So i can add another Asus router as another node later on if i need to.

I made the huge mistake of purchasing these. I have used NetGear hardware in the past with no issues, but these are by far, the worst networking equipment I have ever been exposed to. DO NOT buy these.
