Didn’t pull the trigger on the refurb, but surprised this is the same price as Jan 2024.
Don’t buy this watch if you plan on using the cellular function. I received a watch and I am not able to activate on phone plan in the USA. It must be from a different country.

Arrived in the mail today - going to throw on the charger for a couple hours and see if it even turns on 
2 hours later and i’m fairly certain its just straight up DOA - we’ll see what an overnight charge does, if anything at all
24 hours later and it is 100% DOA. Would be curious if anyone else that got one ended up with a working unit.
I ran into the same thing as previous folks where purchase date said “2021”, but Apple Phone Customer Support was able to activate the warranty/shift the purchase date to 2025.
CS has offered a partial refund, and I guess I will try my luck with Apple repair. Bit disappointing, but should still have a watch in the end.

Ended up doing the partial refund. Since the warranty was activated, got on with customer support and apparently it will be repaired and is en route to apple now. I imagine they’ll ship back an apple certified refurb.
Not the worst deal in the world, but definitely a PITA and YMMV. Kinda knew going into it based off previous threads of the years old watches ‘brand new’.
Ok final update - Apple ended up sending a refurbished watch, and it’s apple care+ eligible.
Would I do it again? Probably. Basically ended up being a $170 Series 7 Apple Certified Refurbished watch. Not sure if the original would have had blood oxygen (since it never turned on), but the refurb does not.
