NEW Asus VivoBook 13 OLED 2-in-1 Laptop

4gb soldered memory.

My heart hurts when I hear this, otherwise it looks like a pretty good portable laptop.

Soldered memory should be illegal

These things are too thin for an SODIMM socket, let alone the RAM stick.

Agree, and likely the main reason it’s only $280. I just wish it was possible to somehow upgrade.

My mom’s looking for a basic Windows laptop with touchscreen to do Circuit stuff on. Would this function pretty good as a laptop too, or is it more just a tablet with a detachable keyboard? I wish Cricut officially supported Chromebooks, but I guess the demand just isn’t there yet.

Edit: for context, she has been using a 12" Surface Laptop Go, which has decent performance and a touch screen, but she would prefer a larger 2-in-1 device, not necessarily for portability but for versatility. The fact that this comes with a stylus and both that and the computer itself charge with USB-C is another big plus. She absolutely hates the proprietary Surface Laptop charger, and I don’t blame her one bit.

The amazing thing is that these were close to $600 on Woot about a month or so ago. I guess Woot finally figured out that what they were selling wasn’t worth it.

According to Cricut, this machine meets the minimum requirements, but I’m not so sure it would be a great experience.

  • Windows® 10 or later*
  • CPU: Intel™ Dual-Core or equivalent AMD® processor
  • RAM: 4GB
  • 2 GB free disk space
  • An available USB port or Bluetooth® connection
  • Display: Minimum 1024px x 768px screen resolution

But as a pure consumption device, say Netflix or Amazon, the OLED screen alone is worth looking at.

It is shame because it’s a compelling devise otherwise. OLED, two and one form factor… It’s kind of a unicorn.

Took a chance on it. If anything, it’ll keep her happy for a while

Make sure you uninstall ANY/ALL free Norton antivirus software products, and other junk that comes preloaded. I’m sure it will do the basics just fine.
