Does this model work with Libby?

If it won’t work, keep googling and there’s ways around it. Sometimes you need Calibre but it’s not too difficult to get books from any of the library apps converted and over to any of the e-readers.

I assume Kindles on Woot aren’t included in the “get 20% off on a new Kindle (plus your trade-in credit) when you trade in your old Kindle” on Amazon.com. I have 2 Fire tablets and would trade in one of them if I were getting a new Kindle e-reader on Amazon. I don’t know what Black Friday/Cyber Monday prices will be like for Kindles on Amazon. Using the non-sale price for a bottom-of-the-line current-generation Kindle, the price for that after trade-in credit + 20% off would be slightly cheaper than the price of the Kindle Paperwhite on offer here at Woot. On the other hand, this is a Kindle Paperwhite, so slightly nicer than a base-model Kindle, and I wouldn’t mind it being a previous-generation Paperwhite. Decisions, decisions!

I think you would have to connect Libby with your phone. And then it would be in your library waiting for you on your kindle. I’m not sure if you could do it without your phone though

Yeah, the only real bummer to me is that this generation has micro USB.

Yup I’d grab this otherwise

This model doesn’t need wifi or a phone to download books. That’s what’s cool about it. I ordered one then realized I always have my phone anyway and cancelled.

Edit: probably need to get your books from Libby to amazon first on another device.

This model has 32GB of internal memory. How many books can it store, compared to a base-model current-gen. Kindle Paperwhite with 8GB?

Googling gets you answers that say about 1000 books per gig. Books don’t take up much space. How many books do you guys need anyway lol.

This seems like a great deal especially with 32gb and free cellular service. If my (7th gen 4gb Paperwhite from 2015) Kindle crapped out I would go for it.

Hrm. I have a 5th and 7th Gen which have much more like paper weights than paper whites. Still tempted to get this tho. :person_shrugging:

Does the 4G/LTE service on this particular model still work? My Oasis 2 (9th Generation) had LTE support in the US, but on a trip last week I discovered that Amazon has disabled the ability to use it. I’m assuming it was linked to the 3G network shutdowns.

Apart from the current generation Kindle Oasis, Amazon isn’t selling cellular-enabled devices any more which is a major bummer, as being able to leave my phone at home (or at least in my pocket) and still buy/download books was the killer feature for me.

Long story short, if anyone who has this model can confirm that cellular is still OK, I’d appreciate hearing about it before I take a gamble on this.

4G LTE still works and currently has no sunset date from any of the US carriers. They’ll probably phase it out in 8-10 years because there won’t be very many 4G devices still in use by then, and 6G will be all the rage.

The Oasis 9th gen was 3G, which was phased out by all US carriers in 2022.

It was 3G, yes, but also had LTE support on the AT&T network in the US.

Regardless, I know that LTE networks are still operating - but do /you/ own this specific device and confirm that Amazon hasn’t turned off LTE access like they have with the Oasis 9th gen?

Does this have dark mode? I really miss that since switching from the Kindle App to an actual Kindle.

My Googlefu says it’s the 11th Generation that has the warm light.

Does anyone have this model and know for sure if Libby will work with this version of the OS?
