[MOD: cleaned up link. That’s a different discontinued model.]
I’m not 100% sure what the differences are exactly. But the item you linked to is a different model number (R-12SW vs R-120SW).
Bought one of these babies to pair with my Yamaha TSR-700 7.1 Channel AV Receiver. Can’t wait till it gets here. Good deal on this.
We’ve had one for a minute. Still makes me jump in the moment sometimes.
What you mean for a minute?
Seems like a good deal, but do you guys know if Woot ever comes out with higher quality Klipsch subs for sale?
I don’t know exactly, but maybe 2, 3 years?
Also this is one step down from their highest level. This is reference, the next step up is reference premier.
Oh ok, still learning English every day hehe. I am thinking to buy this to replace the Q990C subwoofer, which is pretty small and don’t like how it sounds. Found a video on youtube on how to do it.
No worries, it’s definitely more slang lol. If it’s a wired subwoofer it should be plug and play via RCA connector.
I just received a similar model, the Klipsch R-120SWi Wireless Subwoofer (includes a wireless transceiver) from Costco ($200), tried it out this afternoon with my AVR. Sounds great, and can definitely be tuned to work with a number of speakers. It can thump, or just resonate (blend in with main speakers).
I bought it to go with Klipsch R-41PM Powered Bookshelf Speakers bought here (delivering tomorrow). Can’t wait to hear how well the combined trio sounds with a Chromecast Audio feeding TOSlink digital audio.
The music in my home office is about to get A LOT better muhaha.
The dimensions of this is 14" wide and 19" deep … bigger than I expected. Hefty, too.
BTW, this is the model on Amazon. https://a.co/d/hRQhzO4
FYI my review of this subwoofer with the bookshelf speakers. tl;dr: very good subwoofer for a home theater, capable of lots of rumble. (When it’s rumbling or chuffing, you have the gain too high.)
You can match a subwoofer with mains by playing a 200Hz-30Hz descending tone sweep through your system. As the tone descends through 100Hz, 80Hz, 60Hz, 50Hz … you should not hear a drop out (indicating the crossover is too low for the mains) or an obvious change in amplitude (gain is not matched). Check audiocheck.net for sample tones.
This is a plug 'n play subwoofer, you can simply connect a coax RCA cord from an AVR subwoofer output to this unit’s LEFT input. On a dedicated subwoofer/LFE connection, turn the crossover fully clockwise to “LFE.”
Nice thing about this sub, for use with an AVR or system without a dedicated LFE channel you can connect Left and Right PREOUT to this sub’s input, and set the crossover freq as desired. That’s when a descending tone sweep is handy.
N.B. I determined that the Costco subwoofer is this exact subwoofer but with the wireless accessory, a Costco exclusive.
Correct. The R-12SW is an older model as far as I can tell. Similar enough, but not suitable for a 1:1 equivalency.
THIS sub is $249 at Costco with a wireless accessory (Costco exclusive with this model), was on sale recently $50 off.
