(NEW) Samsung HW-Q990D 11.1.4ch Dolby ATMOS Soundbar w/Subwoofer

Do you feel lucky? My Q was working perfectly, until it wasn’t. Insult to injury, I also paid more than the current price, $997. Lets see how easy it will be to return it. Remote doesn’t control the unit & it keeps doing random things (volume Up & Down, all by itself). I plugged in my old Polk soundbar & everything worked. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

By my count, I only see two surround speakers, one center, and one sub. At best, 4.1.1 Not 11 surround/height speakers and four subs.

So some lights emit IR in the range to affect those receivers, even when turned off. You could try changing the light bulbs… May do nothing but it’s an easy thing to try.

I own this unit and trust me, the speakers are all there. Actually 22 speakers total if memory serves…

From Crutchfield product page..
The system delivers big, enveloping Atmos sound with a total of 22 drivers built into its bar and rear surrounds.

I can personally attest that this system kicks ass! Went from A/V receiver with 5.1 and large speakers. The Samsung is LOUD! If you live in an apartment maybe too loud. Can hear voices and music lyrics in crystal clear clarity. Volume stays at 10 or 11 for normal TV viewing.
Put on some music and turn up to 20 or 30 and the neighbors may come a knocking. (Volume goes to 100 and I have only got to 70 for maybe 3 seconds because its so damn loud!)

I noticed the warranty is only 90 day woot one. Does this mean this is a “grey” market unit and we would not get a warranty from Samsung?

I bought one of these about 6 months ago and it’s been working great. It’s very clear and can get very loud. My favorite thing to use it for is listening to dolby atmos content (especially music from Apple Music). I believe I paid closer to 1000 for it, but it is well worth it IMHO

I called to verify this, the warranty is only for 90 days and you can’t get the 1 year from samasung. It sucks im thinking I will rather pay a bit more and have that peace of mind of one year . I just don’t get why you can’t get the one year if it’s brand new. Makes me wonder if it could be restored because the last deal they had was for a one year warranty a few days ago.

That’s not how it works.

First, the last digit is for height speakers, not subs. 1 subwoofer.

Second, the numbers don’t mean the number of pieces. Both the bar and the satellites have multiple physical speakers/channels.

Is it as good as having 4 speakers in the ceiling, or 11 physical speakers around you? Of course not. If you want the best, you need an A/V receiver and physical speakers all wired up.

But this soundbar is basically the best soundbar on the market for sound quality. Like, I have a JBL Bar 9.1 (bought refurb from Woot) and I’m considering pulling the trigger on this guy.

I received a ZC unit (Canadian unit; see (NEW) Samsung HW-Q990D 11.1.4CH Dolby ATMOS Soundbar w/Subwoofer - #12 by Wooter844962304 for background).

My guess is that explains the 90-day warranty. It seems previously the vendor used was an authorized Samsung reseller that covered a full year warranty on ZC/ZP units since Samsung won’t. My understanding is Samsung will only cover ZA units in the US, as those are the models intended for sale within the US whereas ZC/ZP are not.

With this latest round it looks like the vendor no longer covers a year of warranty and we only get the 90-day woot warranty.

I didn’t catch that it was a 90-day warranty so debating doing a return as I’m a bit hesitant on not having the peace-of-mind as well.

I would purchase something like this on a credit card so I could have an actual one year warranty on it.
