This Uniden Pro510XL radio does not have a PA (public address) function. The woot descriptions are wrong. See the manufacturer’s specs which are linked in the listing. That said, i ordered one. Great price.

Does anyone have any idea how many miles this could teavel if i bought 2? My mom recently moved into an assisted living facility and can not have a phone in her apartment. I got burned on 2 sets of walkie talkies that said will work up to 20/30 mile radius. Neither worked passed 3 miles. She is approx 6 miles away. I did read specs but it didnt state how far.
CB, like all radio is dependent on terrain. Out in the Kansas plains, you can get miles. In the Appalachian chain, you’ll be lucky to get a mile.
The taller your antenna, the further the range. With the right conditions, you could talk to someone across the state, even across the country. You can get linera amplifiers that boost the signal output, too.
Six miles, stock, with a basic mobil antenna whip? Nah. Probably not. Six miles with a 40 foot outdoor antenna, properly tuned and matched? Probably no trouble.
I know that isn’t what you wanted to hear, but radio is finicky. 
also… why can she not have a phone in her apartment?
You’ll have to buy and learn how to set up antennas and power supplys. I just had to order an SWR meter to tune my antenna, now i see that i have an inappropriate antenna. There’s more to it unless you’re putting them in cars with mobile antennas… that is simpler. I’m a noob and still learning. Hope this helps, good luck.

I’ve found vague/questionable info saying that the ANC function can be utilized as a PA. Anyone know if that’s right? If so, i will order an external speaker and start brainstorming on clever things to blurt out when i hear bumps in the night outside. Otherwise, not a critical feature. 40 bucks is a great price for a classic radio.

Thank you Taz! No phone because she calls the numbers she sees on tv and orders things to wrong addresses and loses her Medicare from all the stupid Medicaid commercials. And, incoming calls have left her scammed out of $1000s of dollars . Because, people. 
Yes, i meant ANL. Doesn’t make sense to me, but that AI review i saw that suggested such a thing seemed so genuine and confident… and i am a radio noob.
