New to this model. What makes it a add on vs stand alone camera?
Is the device wifi enabled?
Base station is needed to communicate with the device?

yes, you need a base station. i believe you can connect 4 cameras to each base station. but beware, woot is not an official seller for wyze (even though woot is owned by amazon and amazon is official). so, if you have any issues with your wyze devices, they won’t help. you’re out of luck.
I don’t know if this a good option, my mother in law has problems with people stealing from her backyard, she doesn’t have Wi-Fi and I don’t think she ever wants to.
So want to install a camera, that just records to the SD card, and can be reviewed later.
Hopefully it has an app that can communicate with the phone and review the contents.
This item will require an additional base station and they communicate over wi-fi. If she doesn’t have wifi this isn’t going to work for her.
I do own bunch of these and love the newer v2’s versus the OG v1’s. MUCH better image quality, much better in low-light. MUCH better audio, better battery life. They work great if you already have the base station, I love them as I can stick them around outside and dont have to mount them and wire them up. ALso you can mount the base and they pop on and off easily with magnets, love em. Plus the Wyze app is great with person and pet detection, recording, etc. I do pay 7.99/mo for unlimited cam storage but i had it for like $1/month for few years and you can record to SD cards for free
