Can someone clarify the differences amongst the three Yamaha receivers listed here?
There’s
- “(NEW) Yamaha TSR-700 7.2 Channel AV Receiver with 8K HDMI and MusicCast” for $414.67 labeled “New; Open Box”; and
- “Yamaha TSR-700BL-R 7.1 Channel AV (Open Box)” for $350.13 labeled “Refurbished; Open Box”; and
- “Yamaha TSR-700 7.1 Channel AV Receiver with 8K HDMI and MusicCast” for $349.19 labeled “Factory Reconditioned; Open Box.”
Are these all the same model, despite the different headlines? They look the same from the photos. Wouldn’t Refurbished and Factory Reconditioned imply Open Box anyway, or are these Refurbished and Factory Reconditioned receivers that were resold and returned yet again and now are Open Box? With less than a dollar difference between the latter two, which would be preferable (that is, Refurbished or Factory Reconditioned)?
Thanks!
Hi there, the below is a link to the Woot item condition glossary.

Thanks! Reading the linked Condition Glossary, I see that Open Box isn’t applicable to Refurbished or to Factory Reconditioned, despite the detailed item descriptions of the latter two referencing Open Box. And maybe Factory Reconditioned by Yamaha would be preferable to Refurbished/ Grade Unmentioned by some other entity. It might be easier to understand if Woot followed their own condition guidelines!
Now I’m left wondering whether all of these are the same model, TSR-700 7.2, TSR-700BL-R 7.1, and TSR-700 7.1.
The item was sold in whatever condition was listed first (new, refurbished, factory refurbished, etc), returned, and now is being sold in that same condition but also open box. Open box items typically have a 30-day Woot warranty.

Aha! Now I understand. The first item is “New Open Box” condition with a two year warranty. The second and third items are “Open Box on Clearance” condition, specifically “Open Box on Clearance/ Refurbished” condition and “Open Box on Clearance/ Factory Reconditioned” condition, each with a 30 day warranty. (And I presume the “Open Box on Clearance/ Refurbished” condition item is Grade B according to the glossary.)
What concerns me about the latter two is your explanation that they’ve been sold and returned at least twice in order to achieve their current “Open Box on Clearance” condition. That is, they were (1) sold as new, (2) returned as defective, (3) refurbished or reconditioned, (4) resold as Refurbished or Reconditioned but not as Open Box, (5) returned again for whatever reason, and (6) relisted additionally as Open Box. Do I understand that correctly? If they’ve been returned twice and been shipped multiple times already, and have only a 30 day warranty, then because they’re electronic behemoths their purchase could be quite a gamble!
Further, without being able to confirm these are all the same model due to insufficient information in the listings, I’ll have to forgo a purchase. But I appreciate your clarifications which led me to an informed decision.
Nope. That’s not what I said.
I apologize. I’m not trying to be dense; I honestly don’t understand the nuanced nomenclature when compounding “Open Box” with “Refurbished” or “Factory Reconditioned,” despite reading the Glossary (which doesn’t seem to address that). But I do appreciate your volunteering to help in the forums, and trying to help me.
It’s a moot point anyway. With only a 30-day warranty on these receivers, and a lack of definitive model numbers to distinguish them through other reference materials, I’ll seek a different vendor.
No worries. I’m not sure how else to explain it, so I gave up.
But yes, open box items typically have a 30 day Woot warranty.
