Something cool.

I just bought this unit new last year at Costco. This is a good price. It’s a nice unit. Good viewing angle, good visibility day and night, very easy to set up (certainly easier than the old one I had). They have halfway decent support, too. I have to send my DVR in for servicing due to some issues, which I don’t like. I’d rather they just exchange the DVR because I hate to be without my cams at all now. It’s great being able to check in on my house when I’m not home and to catch the various wildlife that traipse through my yard at night.

Is this overkill if all I want to do is watch my dog sleep on the couch while I am at work? Eh, prolly not.

What old system did you have? I’m debating getting this to replace a Swann system that I also happened to get from Woot. It’s hard to find reviews on Night Owl other than the usual Amazon or no name websites.

It was also a Night Owl system. It was a refurbished one and I got it dirt cheap. It was my first system and I quickly learned what I did not want. Too much to list but this system had pretty much everything I wanted. I really like it.

If it helps, here’s the view from my driveway camera. Due to the large soffits I have, I am unable to mount the cameras to them and had to install them coming through the walls. But, you can see it’s got a nice wide angle of viewing. This is the HD view:

What was wrong with the DVR that it required service? Dead hard drive? And what was the turnaround?

I haven’t sent it in yet. It was making a racket, like there is a bad spot on the drive or something. It’s been behaving for now, so I am putting off sending it in until winter when there’s less chance of strangers coming to my door or wandering the neighborhood.
