So I was thinking about purchasing this scooter because the specs and price seemed absolutely amazing!
However, given this a refurbished unit I thought it wise to have a look at the warranty and actually you know READ the specific terms of it…
Here’s just a few of the best gems I found:
Only 90 days total coverage and only the primary components are covered (Frame + Motor).
- Battery, Wheels, Steering assembly etc are all expected to degrade via “normal use” and will not be serviced, period.
Mandated binding-arbitration for any and ALL disputes initiated by the purchaser (YOU!). And, should you LOOSE the dispute NineBot also has a provision saying you may end up being responsible for “reasonable” attorney and legal fees cost!!
-
Please Note: It IS possible to opt-out of the arbitration clause, here’s how;
-
“To opt out you must send notice by e-mail to Ninebot at optout@segway.com, with the subject line: “Arbitration Opt Out.” The opt out notice by e-mail must include (a) your name, address and phone number; (b) the date on which the product was purchased; (c) the product model name or model number; and (d) the Serial Number. Alternatively, you may opt out by calling 1-866-473-4929, prompt 2 no later than 30 calendar days from the date of the first consumer purchaser’s purchase of the product and providing the same information.”
Automatic voiding if any of the following occur:
-
Purchased from unauthorized reseller (Not sure whether Woot is or not…)
-
Scooter used in a manner other than accepted “normal use” such as; Going up and down obstacles or stairs, allowing riders who are over the recommended weight limit (220) to ride it.
-
Purchase invoice AND original warranty doc not provided at initiation of service request.
All of that being said, I am no longer comfortable spending this much money on a device whose primary purpose is to be used on a regular basis as a mode of transportation!
Things are GOING to break down regardless of how careful you are, and it seems pretty clear when they do you are going to have a HELL of a time getting NineBot or anyone else to take responsibility and fix the issues!
