can this be used for a UPS?
Interesting question. Im not an electrical engineer, but whats your intended application?
If you ise the USB-A output to power something external, say a dash cam; and simultaneously charge the pack through it’s micro USB input port… Maybe? I’ve never tried, so I don’t know if it will let you do input and output at the same time. Seems like there may be more elegant and compact solutions available. Also, theae are are not small.
If thinking to use the jumper cables as a UPS source, then I’d say no because that line needs to detect some level of battery voltage to be activated, or you can override it manually with a button on the face. However that discharges the battery pretty quickly, much faster than it could be recharged. I tinker around with aftermarket car stereos, and will use mine to power them on my workbench, but not for very long.
Plus i think you have to try to start the vehicle within 60 seconds, so it may shut off after that. I have one and its great most of the time, but Ive had mixed results. Two different riding mowers- worked great. My 1993 300zx- great. 2009 Altima 2.5- great. 2016 Highlander 3.5- nope. 2015 Dodge diesel- nope.
These are designed for quick discharge, probably more like a capacitor. I dont think it would work well as a UPS. You can get an actual UPS with (likely) more capacity for less (like a cyberpower refurbished unit).
sorry, in this case the question was probably ridiculous. But I’m always on the lookout for a non-standard device I can use as a UPS. I have a Cyberpower unit but I’m not impressed with the old-school battery technology and power available.
