It’s probably cromulent. Moment of inertia is:
I = bh^3 /12
Make the sheet metal thicker (h) and it will significantly increase the resistance to bending. It’s a cube term, so going from 2.5mm to 4mm does increase the stiffness by a factor of 4.1.
