How in the world is this better, or less scary, than using your fingers?

The manufacturer sold only one unit, to a Mr. E. Scissorhands.

This is terrifying. And I’d become proficient at using the back of my hand before using this device. That said, perhaps if you haven’t got any fingers or even the back of your hand-then maybe this device could be useful.
