I bought one of these last sale, few points for those considering it:

  1. Image is really nice, high quality projection with decent HDR (you’re not going to get much better than “decent” with a projector). The 4K is achieved with checkerboarding but is still going to give you the same 4K resolution and quality you would expect. Don’t overthink the method.

  2. It’s BIG. Check the dimensions and make sure it works for you. Not a problem in most cases but just be ready to say “woah, that commenter was totally right”.

  3. There is no Keystone correction. To the uninitiated, what that basically means is that if you don’t have the projector set where it’s projecting the image perfectly in the center of your screen, as you tilt it to adjust that position, it starts to morph into a trapezoid shape. Most good projectors have Keystone correction to morph that back into a rectangle in its new position, but for some strange reason, this one doesn’t. If you’re not going to be able to place this projector directly in the middle of where you want the image, I would look elsewhere. It does have 100% image offset and some vertical lens shift, so you’ve got some wiggle room vertically, but no such luck horizontally.

Overall the price is pretty great for a good 4K projector. There’s not a lot of better deals you’re going to find for getting into 4K in projector form. Just make sure that you can fit this precisely where it needs to go, and if you buy it and mount it, take your time to position it exactly in the right place.

Great post.
