Pale Blue Draught

Totally bedazzling! Just superb.

Draught to cure a drought of ignorance ; )

Disappointing that a science-themed thing is as wrong as “fermented saccharified enzyme.”

Bait and switch? Maybe I’m missing something but on the iPhone app this shirt says the price is $7.00 + free shipping. When I add to cart and I try to checkout it adds a $5 shipping charge. So… How am I getting free shipping?

Thank you Woot for running my latest shirt and thank you Wooters for continuing to Woot!
Feeling like a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark? Knock back a couple of these and feel like a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam!

Sorry for the following wall of text, but someone should post this and it should probably be me. So without further ado…

Pale Blue Dot

“Look again at that dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every “superstar,” every “supreme leader,” every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.”
― Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space

What’s the name of the iPhone app?

It’s a known issue with the app, the devs are working on updating. The shipping is $5.

Love this one, David!
Glad to see you back in business…

Love the shirt – I’m a sucker for beer label inspired designs. Is this a direct reference for something, or just science-y? If I’m missing something let me know!

Agreed, disappointing but somewhat expected on woot

Thanks. That was so TL;DR, but should have gone there first.

Explain please; biology was never my thing. Is there a small edit that would work? When I Googled that phrase, it suggested “fermented saccharifying enzyme”, but I can’t find that exact phrase either. Inquiring minds want to know.

You really should read. It is one of the most beautiful, humbling, and widely known references in pop-sci / sci-fi world. Git yurself edumacated.

The only gripe I have is that draught is pronounced “draft”, not “drawt”. But it looks like it rhymes with “dot”, so I’m in for one.

So I totally get the reference. AFTER I realized it says Carl and not Garl. Just a quick look and I saw the letter G.

First, amazing design, and very clever X3 Congrats on the win!

I’m such a horrible person, but I’m probably one of the only wooters who doesn’t like Carl. Don’t get me wrong, his show is pretty cool. I followed his twitter feed for awhile though, and that was probably the biggest mistake ever >.< I do my best to dissassociate a great show from the folks who run it, but I just can’t stomach hearing him after being exposed to that feed.

if they’re gonna use the british spelling, say it like a brit: “drawft”
