Perky-Pet Smart Bird Feeder with Camera

This looks like a pretty good deal, has anyone here tried this hummingbird feeder out yet? :bird:

Yeah, but 20 ounces of nectar just aren’t enough for me, and the flower things make drinking it somewhat difficult, so now I just use a large beer stein instead.

I have a Perky-Pet Smart Bird Feeder for songbirds, and the camera on this one looks a lot like the camera on mine. It works quite well. Getting the camera and the app on a secure network was a little fiddly to get working but it ran smoothly once set up. If the app with this feeder works like mine, it will save 30-second videos and a few snaps, which you can then download, or save a few directly in the app.

The camera is motion-activated, so the battery usage will likely vary depending on how busy your feeder is. Mine was very busy, and the battery lasted about 6 days between charges.

I’m thinking about getting this one. I usually hang two hummingbird feeders with a 6-ounce nectar capacity, so this one would be way larger than I need. Hard to decide!

Anyway, I hope the info about the camera helps. Let me know if you have any questions about it. (Perhaps tomorrow I can post a picture or two from my bird feeder, if you’re interested.)

Hummingbird food (nectar) typically lasts 2 to 4 days outside before it spoils, ferments, or grows mold, with hotter weather (above 80F or 26 C) requiring a change every 1-2 days. In cooler weather, it may last up to a week, but regular cleaning is vital to prevent bacteria. The bacteria the KILLS the hummingbirds.

Hummingbird nectar needs changed every 1-2 days @ temps 80F or 3-4@ 79F & under or it spoils grows mold & causes the birds tongue to swell killing them google it please

Sry 4 bothering u & thanks 4 ur time.

Thanks, yeah, that is why I only have the smaller capacity feeders, not enough hummingbirds in my area to use up even 8 ounces before it needs freshening up.

Although it seems the more feeders you have, the more birds you get :parrot:

Thanks so much, I appreciate all the info! :hugs: I was thinking it might be too small but the last few years we only have like 2 families that feed here.
I’d LOVE to see your pictures! :framed_picture: :bird:

Here are some pics of one of the cardinal families from last summer. Starting with one of the babies:

And papa:

There are A LOT of photos. And videos. Lots to wade through. Every time the motion sensor is activated, it takes a 30-second video and three still photos. You can also watch it live. Also, note that it stamps each image with the Perky-Pet logo. I’ve been known to edit that out.

I hope you enjoy it! I’ve pretty much decided against it, partly because it holds so much nectar, and partly because I have OCD tendencies that make all the photos a bit too much for me to handle (although there would be a lot fewer hummingbird photos, so there’s that). Anyway, good luck and have fun!!
