no it does not use DVD-RAM, if that is what your question is asking
It would be awesome if it could burn Blu-Ray. Then again, if it could do that I doubt you could get way with it being less than 50 bucks.

I have this machine. 90% of the time it records in encryption. Without the proper software you will never find your recordings.
