How exactly does BD live work?

does it play video files. such as avi or mpeg

Good price for Blu-ray player. I play Blu-ray on my PS3 and movies definitely look a whole lot better; but, don’t get this unless you have a 1080p TV 40"+ with HDMI inputs. That’s what will give you your best picture.

Anyone know if it plays Xvid/Divx .avi files?

you do not have to worry about the battle of the formats
time of death is confirmed
blu ray wins

Meh, it’s a good deal. Would rather have a PS3 though.

It doesnt

Not a bad deal. The cheapest deal elsewhere is $169 at amazon, so if you desperately want a blu-ray player this is the one.

Through a ‘series of tubes’

Yes it does:
HDMI OUT: HDMI 19 pin standard connector (1080p 24 Hz output) HDMI™ (V.1.3 with Deep Color, x.v.Color™, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio | Essential)

You can see it in the rear connectors picture to the right of the barcode.

Uhh, did you read?

* HDMI OUT: HDMI 19 pin standard connector (1080p 24 Hz output) HDMI™ (V.1.3 with Deep Color, x.v.Color™, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio | Essential)

I wondered how soon it would be for someone to say that. Some people don’t care about games, can get this for less than half the price of a ps3.

Also if you’ve already got a 360 and just want a blu-ray player this will work too, and have the best of both worlds (games and blu-ray).

This won’t play .mkv files, will it?

Some blu-ray discs have bonus features that allow you to interact with social networks while you’re watching the movie and download additional content while watching the movie. I’ve never used it and never heard anything good about it. Here’s the official Web site:
