Playing It Koi

That’s not a giant goldfish…it’s an optical illusion! Something tells me that’s a regular goldfish placed very near the camera and the fisherman is hundreds of feet behind.

Indeed it is not. It’s a Ryukin Goldfish. But if you read the whole description, you’d see the goldfish references. No idea why there is a koi reference.

Goldfish (and this is most, if not all, goldfish… I’m no scientist) are members of the Carp family. Koi are also carp. They mention Koi in the writeup because it’s basically the same carp as a goldfish (indeed, many familiar goldfish species are pretty clear in their miniscule similarity to koi).

It’s because of fish like that I don’t like swimming in the ocean.

I love goldfish, but I can’t wear a dead one.

Is there a version of the fish story trailer subbed or dubbed, in English?

Fishsticks on olie!

that’s a lot food to keep this fish happy…unless he forgets he’s hungry?

This fisherman could make his day even better if he could bag a couple of those rare white-legged seagulls up at the top. They’re mighty fine eatin’.

So this is how fish play hangman!

Great job, Olie! Wonderful shimmer on the goldfish’s scales and sheerness on the fins.

…I thought that was a koi…I feel stupid.

That’s exactly what I thought. Very visually appealing.

The designer is from MN.! When I lived there we fished for Northerns!! Setting your sights a little low  Uffda!

I almost bought this shirt to add to my Woot Koi Pond… but thanks to Edwardblake who cleaned my glasses I relized it wasnt a koi.

I would have bought it if it was a koi hanging on that shirt.

Goldfish may be part of the carp family, but only the koi sells for tens of thousands of dollars.

I would like to take this opportunity to dispel several rumors about goldfish:

  • Goldfish do not grow to ‘to the size of their environment’. For many fishkeepers, goldfish will seem to grow to the size of the tank and stop, only to grow larger when moved to a different tank: but this is because in each case it merely took some time for the tanks to reach a maximum stabilized level of ammonia. Ammonia is a chemical produced in fish urine and feces that stunts fish growth when it accumulates in large enough quantities, but is removed by bacteria in the filtration mechanism. It is possible, through frequent water changes, to make a goldfish grow as large as its biology dictates.

  • Goldfish are not a short-lived animal. The record age for a goldfish in captivity is over 40 years. Most people place goldfish in small tanks or bowls without any form of oxygenation or filtration, essentially creating a goldfish coffin.

  • Goldfish have a memory longer than 8 seconds, if Mythbusters has anything to say about it.

Same here… very very pretty, the fish looks amazing, but I wish it were alive and swimming on the shirt instead!

Edit: (You know, as far as a fish can be alive in a shirt design…)

How far does that scale go up if that fish only moves the needle that far?

Agreed. This shirt is just gross looking

It’s an optical illusion! The fisherman is actually standing 100 feet behind the fish!
