I absolutely agree. The fahrvergnügen campagin by Volkswagen generated a whole lot of attention, while it was seen as a dud early on in the campaign, the quirky odd word brought a huge amount name brand recognition. Instead of promoting the “driving pleasure” aspect it was mocked, made fun of and morphed by folks into other silly words and phrases. So much so that it really did a good job for Volkswagen, not necessarily in the way it was first intended. Considering the campagin was more than 30 years ago, people still remember the word and have fun with it, that is phenomenal.

I beat them to it…

In 1970’s we had a Type 3 VW. None of the dash controls were labeled, so I used a label maker to fix their oversight.

Wipers were der flippenfloppen
Hazards were der blinkenblinken

… and so on.
