Also called a Swamp Cooler. These work amazingly well in Arizona and anywhere else the humidity is below 20%. Great for the garage or patio.

Not now. Monsoon season is here. Swamp coolers no longer work with all the rain and humidity. Now you need AC.

I own one similar to this. It worked well in Colorado but it has sat in my basement for three years since I installed a whole house fan. I barely run my A/C now.

I wouldn’t if I were you. I bought one here about 4-6 weeks ago. I had to adjust the float as soon as it arrived. I saw the float was flimsy so replaced it. Also, whatever plastic it’s made of makes it smell fishier than any other swamp cooler I’ve ever had. I have to drain it and rinse it down at least once a week. I’d just get a window unit and put caster wheels on it if I could do it over.

Absolutely stinks to high heaven. I bought one from the last woot sale and can confirm the the tank is impossible to drain completely so it blows mildew scented air. In addition, my unit stank of curry so badly I had to leave it outside several days. Also, the environmental conditions required for this unit to cool (humidity <20%) basically mean you are buying a very loud, stinky, and expensive fan for people in most of the country. Don’t buy this crap, mine is going to goodwill. Last time I woot too due to horrible return policy.

I have been looking for ventless A/C options for our pop up camper. Small space, probably not needed most nights, but because we camp a couple weeks at a time, there are those extremely hot/humid days in Michigan…What I have learned from research is that in humid areas, this is a no go. It can’t convert the water temp because there is too much water in the air to affect the area. Dry climates, like Arizona, this will do well.

Anyone who has a decent option for a camper, aside from installing a roof unit, please let me know.

Even in dry climates, for this to work it needs to draw dry air from 1 area and vent the humidified air it produces out somewhere else. In a sealed (indoor) room, this will drop the air temperature for a short while, then the room temp will return to the previous temperature + 100% humidity.

I only recommend this type of cooler in open environments with the air being blown almost directly at the occupant(s).

Also, dropping ice or ice packs in the tank helps if your tap water temperature is warm (common in deserts where this thing is useful.)
