Post Your Poems!

Aww, that’s prose, not poetry. You can start a prose thread if you want.

And are you Octavio Paz or Eliot Weinberger?

Well, other than that, poor Garret never got anything to do on SNL.
Except Base aball has been very, very good to me.

I like that poem. (was it Garrett Morris or the other guy…name will be put in once my brain releases it to me)

It was Garrett.

It was Garrett Morris. Eddie Murphy did the Kill my landlord, kill my landlord poems. (C-I-L-L my landlord), if that’s what you’re thinking of.

Picard charges in
Light rays bouncing off his head
Klingons run in fear

This is my favorite poem.

High Flight (an Airman’s Ecstasy)

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings.
Sunward I’ve climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.
And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

John Gillespie Magee

Then a couple haikus.

I have remained calm
Paid the bills on time each month
Where did the jobs go?

Dogs make me happy
Woo woo song, kidney bean dance
Wagging tails, I laugh!

What are people’s favorite “not written by them poems?” I like Auden, Wallace Stevens, Yeats, and Constantine Cavafy a lot.

Let’s get some COLERIDGE UP IN HEEYAH. Kubla Khan’s like the greatest thing ever.

Also, Tennyson.

And Neruda above all.

GOD I feel so nerdy right now. I need to go dye my hair or something right quick.

Thread hi-jack!

Umm… John Donne, EE Cummings, William Butler Yeats. I don’t read a lot of poetry though.

I’m a big fan of Standards for Power-Limited Circuit Cables by UL

Nightlight

Click.
Lights off, the
darkness
of 3 AM, I am
lying
in the motionless
shadow
of a long dead night.

Wave;
I sense the
faintest
outline of my four fingers
flickering
and a thumb
standing
stoic guard over the dance.

Blink -
Sight by dim
light
of the window curtains sewn
gossamer
pastel floral and
white
moon, stars, rain, and sun.

Silent?
No nightlight keeping
vigil
at 4 AM, I am
falling
into the dancing
shadows
of a long dead night.

If you ever go out with a schoolteacher,
You’re in for a sensational night;
She’ll make you do it over and over again
Until you do it right.

Poetic license allows you to break grammar.

I. Missing Elements

Now here the leaf and here the dew,
the earthen green, the water blue,
so latter says who says to who,
might you, might you be waiting too?

The leaf rejoins, though some sedate,
for what do you suppose I wait?
For fall to rise and I to fate?
Might you, might you, be also late?

So dew responds on this demand,
*no might, no might, nor understand
past flower’s sense had it been grand,
nor lapsing fall of finite sand.

Thus wise I know I know you not,
why green must pale, in gold be wrought…*
thus due to dew sincere distraught
the two from two shared in one thought.

But comes the fall, the fall is come,
then leaves the dew by frost so numb,
but leaf, but leaf, where go to from?
Go to the frozen dew struck dumb?

But leaf speaks not nor dew at all,
for one is rain and other fall.
They have no voice, alludes so small…
lasts silent wind as bitter squall.

The fog is deep, or so they say,
but some see through the damning gloom.
Killers lurk within the grey
just short of bronze, but in the tomb.

'Tis shallow, truth - and oft they fa**il,
as I myself in forty-five!
So follow ye the misted trail
that wraps around the falling hive…

I walk the path of just below,
well trodden now, but when he raced,
he was the first to truly know
the sweet, so close and bitter taste.
