Looks like this is a good deal. Best price I can find elsewhere for the 8-zone model is $180 at Home Depot. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rachio-8-Zone-Smart-Sprinkler-Controller-2nd-Generation-Refurbished-8ZULWB-R/301386987?cm_mmc=Shopping|THD|G|0|G-BASE-PLA-D26P-Plumbing|&gclid=CJ_GnZTIt9QCFYaEswodYIQA5g&gclsrc=aw.ds
I got an 8-zone last time we sold these. I was able to connect it all up myself. I had to do some juggling to get enough wire as it requires about 1" more than my rainbird did but I figured it out quick enough.
It’s super easy to set up. Just connect to your Wi-Fi and answer some questions. It send me a notice when it skips watering due to rain which I find cool in a geek kind of way.
We have the original. Works very well. It is nice to be able to work on the sprinklers and have the ability to turn them on and off remotely with the phone.
Seems to be saving some water too…
I got this in the last Woot-off. The Rachio is amazing. I’m living in the UK with my bro renting our house. Last week he sent me a pic of a brown spot and I was able to pop up my Rachio app and add a special timer for that zone for the next 2 weeks to get that zone back in shape. The water savings and customizability are great for green thumbs as well. I have unlimited water through city irrigation but for people paying for water, this is a godsend. You can also get rebates so check with your local water district.
After researching and reading everything I could about wifi sprinkler controllers I ended up buying the RainMachine HD-12 unit versus the Rachio. Better construction (metal screws and connectors vs plastic spring clips that break on the Rachio – look at used Rachio units on ebay and see all the units with broken spring clips), visual screen on the RainMachine unit with visual weather, etc., RainMachine is not cloud based (so if Rachio ever goes out of business you are not left with an expensive brick on your wall), etc. Another tip – buy a Lowes gift card via card bear or ebay (I found one for 10% off and then find a lowes 10% discount coupon and use together for 20% off.
Second best woot ever(after bidets).
As a former victim of the Hunter sprinkler controller, this thing is a fantastic upgrade.
If you have a Hunter, or other brand, programmable controller with a dial…get a rachio. I used to struggle every year programming my Hunter, it took an hour at least.
The rachio installs in about fifteen minutes, programming takes another fifteen and then you can control your irrigation system from anywhere.
my yard has never looked better, huge fan of rachio.
My town mandates that you have a rain sensor installed on your irrigation systems. I talked to them about the intelligent rain skip function of the Rachio and they were impressed. I know you can connect an additional sensor, but they said it’s not needed with this.
It’s an easy install and easy setup.
One of the best Woot purchases I’ve made.
I bought the Orbit B-Hyve controller. Does everything the Rachio does without needing to be connected to the manufacturer’s cloud (I try to avoid buying things that could be EOL’d by the company going out of business). It also costs a LOT less.
So far it’s been doing an excellent job. Waters sunny areas more often than shaded ones. Does not water if it has recently rained or will soon. All programming done from the iPhone app.
I just bought the 1st gen on Ebay a few days ago. I’m kinda kicking myself now. Should come in today. At least the 1st gen was a GREAT deal.
After doing my research last year to replace my old Rainbird system. I picked up a gen 1 Rachio here for 100 buckts. Didn’t have any issues with the springs your talking about. Unless they have updated the software since 2016, the Rachio can trigger events like send you an email, turn on lights, etc. Mine sends email when it’s doing it’s thing, skips a watering, etc but what really sold me in the end. Rachio is MADE IN THE USA where’s Rainmachine is from China.
When I got my 1st gen, the ONLY difference at the time was a manual run button. In case you leave your smart phone in the house and you wan to run the system. Paid 100 bucks for the thing and love it. Like if it’s too windy, it will defer the scheduled run. If it rains, don’t need a sensor, it will use the weather report instead. Like the ability to just run one zone from your phone while you are de-winterizing it or want to hose down someones pet that’s trying to pee in your yard ;-).
Very well worth the $. Fantastic piece of equipment and not too difficult to install.
Add another satisfied Rachio customer here. Easy set up and replace for the old Rainbird system. I had a 2 minute issue setting up the app (wifi interference I think so I had to move away from the unit), but I don’t know if that was my phone. Either way, it wasn’t a big issue.
Skips waterings, updates amounts, and I’ve done a couple of manual skips if I knew rain was coming later in the day. Super easy to use, not too complicated to set up.
Logged in, picked my model and quantity, clicked on the add to cart and it doesn’t do anything.
First time that woot purchase link did nothing.
Did you select which model you wanted first?
best purchase you can make if you own a sprinkler system. my weeds are now fully watered and never dying. (so in other words, this device works best if you focus on mowing and taking care of your lawn)
I bought in the last woot, and love it. The app on my phone and android tablet works wonderfully, the system is easily customizable, and there’s no mystery when things are getting watered, if the system shuts down for rain, etc.
My current system is mounted outside. Is this waterproof or will I have to mount a box?
