3.3 stars on the mothership, with multiple reports of the battery stopping taking a charge and swelling to the point of causing the case to open up. link
That’s a really poor tablet, especially with only 4 hours battery life and rather low screen resolution. I would recommend against it, in general; I can’t think of any good uses cases, aside from a super cheap eReader (but with 4hrs battery life, I don’t think it would be much worth it)
The only way I could recommend something like this is for someone that wanted to use this as a smart alarm clock or something. Maybe throw some widgets on there set it on your stand by your bedside (keeping it plugged in) and making it like a Chumby type device. Any functionality beyond that will surely lead you into frustration.
This is another zombie brand. RCA hasn’t existed as a real company since the 1980s. GE just licenses the name to whomever. It looks like these tables are made by a Hong Kong company called Venturer.
A very general but sound rule of thumb with these tablets - avoiding Dual core CPUs in favor of Quad core CPUs will make your life much more fulfilling and happy.
Otherwise the reviews for this tablet portend a useful future for it as a nice flat surface to protect the bottom of the obsolete/broken tech gadgets drawer.
Better deal at Walmart for a quad core with Lollipop.
Walmart offers the RCA 16GB 7" Quad-Core Android Tablet in four colors (Purple pictured), model no. RCT6773W42BF C, for $39.99. Opt for in-store pickup to avoid the $4.97 shipping charge. That’s tied with our mention from a week ago, $20 off list, and the lowest price we could find. It features a 7" display, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, WiFi, microUSB, and Android 5.0 OS (Lollipop).
since maybe the 80’s they made a decent CRT TV up until that point, then they were bought by Thompson Consumer Electronics, and production went wherever it was cheapest.
