LOVED it.

I recently finished ‘The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek,’ an historical novel blending 2 real-life stories - those of the book women in Kentucky, who took books and basically any reading material available from the local library to those who lived deep in the hills and hollers and who had no other access to books; and it’s also a story of a Blue woman who lived in Kentucky.

I had to do some research on the Blue people. It’s really fascinating.

I highly recommend the book.

Shortly after I finished that one, I discovered that the author, Kim Michele Richardson, had written a sequel - The Book Woman’s Daughter, which I promptly ordered and am reading now.

Next up is Timothy Cotton’s newest, Donut Holes for the Soul. I read his daily columns on Facebook, and have read Detective in the Dooryard already. He’s a good author.

After that, my other favorite author, Sean Dietrich, has a new one out - Over Yonder. You should check him out on FB, too… and read some of his books.

I really enjoyed The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek.

I’m currently reading The Art Spy and it is very good.

Have you read the sequel yet? The Book Woman’s Daughter? So far, it’s just as good.

The Art Spy looks really good, too. I’ve read an account of Rose Valland before. I’m not sure which book I was reading that included her story, but it looks like I need to read this one, too! Thanx for the heads up.

I haven’t read this yet - it was just released - but ANYTHING from Denise (DM Guay) is WELL worth a read!

From DM’s Newsletter:

Have yourself a Merry little Christmas, with this funny festive sci-fi horror comedy full of sea creatures and hillbillies!

This Christmas, a hero will rise from the trailer park.

Earl Frost isn’t what most people would call a hero. He’s indoorsy. He lives with his grandma in a 1970s single wide in the Misty Pines Trailer Park. He spends most of his time taking care of his pet fish and working nights at Cecil’s Gas ‘n’ Stop. Earl Frost also hates Christmas, which is a cardinal sin up there with pride and greed in Holiday Lake.

Holiday Lake is like a town on a Christmas card, or in one of those holiday romance movies that play non-stop on TV. Everyone here loves Christmas. Except for Earl. He has his reasons, but his bah humbug attitude hasn’t helped him make friends. That’s why Earl had to join a doomsday Cthulhu cult just to get some pals to drink beer with.

Which is great until a cult ritual in the back of a junk shop goes wrong, and horrific creatures rise from the lake, hell-bent on killing and destroying everyone and everything in their path.

Earl will have to team up with the Misty Pines Trailer Park Thursday Night Knitting Club and the girl of his dreams to stop the creatures as they slash their way through town. Can Earl save Holiday Lake—and Christmas—from monsters unlike any man has ever seen? Find out in Christmas Creeps from the Deep!

Christmas Creeps from the Deep is the new cozy holiday horror / science fiction comedy creature feature from the author of 24/7 Demon Mart. It’s like a Hallmark Christmas romance meets Humanoids from the Deep. Part eco horror, part romcom, one hundred percent adventure.

It’s perfect for fans of Suckerville (Chris Sorensen), Secret Santa (Andrew Shaffer), Oddjobs (Heide Goody/Iain Grant), The Stupidest Angel (Christopher Moore), Kaiju Preservation Society (John Scalzi), The Visitor (Sergio Gomez), and Candy Cain Kills (Brian McAuley).

Moved unto a re-read of The Five by Robert McCammon. Went to a meet and greet with him a few years ago, near Birmingham, and he is a really nice guy.

Side note. If anyone is a fan of The First Law by Joe Abecrombie there is a cool kickstarter right now.

Personally I’ve had zero success backing these things (other than an Hugh Howey one) but best of luck if this is your thing.

I just finished an Advance Reader Copy of the best book I have read in YEARS.

A thrilling and ominously prophetic debut set in a world when Earth and its resources have been pushed to breaking point, giving rise to a revolutionary—and highly controversial—procedure in which two people’s consciousness can be combined to exist in one body.
