Regal Ware Induction Cooktop

A portable stove, who would have thought. I would totally use this while tent camping.

great if you “camp” near a 15 amp outlet…

I didn’t even know I could get something like this. I wonder if I could hook this up to my power inverter in my car and cook while I drive.
Aren’t you busy watching movies on your smart phone while you drive? Do you really want boiling water on your passenger seat?
Sorry to burst your bubble, but I see three problems:

 1. This thing takes 1300 watts, most inverters/car electrical systems really can’t supply this.
 2. The cookware gets hot, the food gets hot; do you want a bunch of hot stuff in the car?
 3. The heat from the cookware does get the surface of the induction cooktop hot, so you’d have to wait for it to cool off (can take several minutes) before you can put other stuff on it, like your hand.

Haha in all seriousness though, like Lichme I wanted to know if an inverter could run this for case of camping. Oh well, going to have to use the ol fire pit until I can get that RV.

Just kidding, we all know RVs are cheating. But then again I guess this would be cheating too

haha, wow you guys keep really great tabs on me!

Can anyone comment on deep frying outside with induction burners? I hate the oil smell in my house, and this seems like the perfect solution!

It’ll work. Likewise, so would an electric deep fryer.

Does anyone have this particular brand??? I just may have to buy this as I have always wanted one and this seems cheaper than those I’ve looked at. (hopefully that isn’t due to lower quality.)
More importantly, is it really weird to be boiling water on your counter top???

I want replacement burners for a regular range top to be induction. Come on inventors. I came up with the idea, make it happen. I won’t even ask for a dime.
Where’d you get the pot? It’s cute.
The pot is from the induction-ready set sold here on March 19th.

“The forms are all standard, boiler-plate”

“OK, well we’re all hungry, we’ll get to our hot plates soon enough”

Why isn’t the power cord in the photo? Does the plug have two prongs or three?

In the specs:
Power: 1300 Watts – 120 Volts (3-Prong Plug)

What if you had glass cookware and also had some steel balls??? Could you put the steel balls in a glass pot and cook with your balls in the pot? (pun intended)
Seriously tho. Would this work??? Can someone try to boil water and report?

The glass would make the distance between the steel and the magnet too far.

Dear wootgods, I hope I can post this and it will stay up.

This is video is for a product that is about 3 times the cost of today’s woot. I was still able to learn a lot from it and it has a lot of relevant information about induction cooking. I hope you can let it stay but I would understand if you delete it.

I’ll say it again, This is for a different product, but fagor wants 200 dollars for this technology.
You can get the same great technology in this Regal Ware for 50 dollars today from woot.

Induction is the most ‘energy efficient’ way of cooking b/c it makes the pot/pan hot. Gas is a close second. Chefs debate about which is better (see gardenweb.com discussion boards). I don’t know about the quality of this model…only having 6 temperature settings is a little concerning for not having precise control, which is one of the competitive advantages of induction. Although, for $50, you probably can’t really complain. This type of technology won’t work to swap out a burner on your regular electric range b/c of the complicated computer controls and magnetic coils in the cooktop unit. These are used extensively in Europe, but haven’t taken off in the US for some reason. If I really needed a portable burner, I would pick this up. May pick it up anyways…

(I looked into these a LOT when trying to convince my wife to go with it for the green aspect when we were shopping for a kitchen remodel. Top name brand induction, like Miele and Wolf induction tops don’t seem to be worth the ROI compared with cheaper gas models, so I let that battle go)

Not sure if it makes any difference in heating time, but the one at Costco (Aroma brand), also for $49.99, is a 1500w unit, versus this 1300w one.

Costco also sells an All-Clad induction burner, which is pretty fancy looking, as it’s all stainless steel and pretty beefy, but it’s $199.

Only if you’re Duke Nukem.

these things are awesome, with one of these, and a foodsaver from costco, you can do basic sous vide cooking at home. use the foodsaver to “vacuum” suck whatever it is you are cooking, then set the induction burner to the desired temp, and drop your bags in for the desired time. Seriously restaurants spend 1000s on similar technology.

it will not get or hold the oil at a hot enough temp to deep fry anything large, like a turkey, however you may be able to fry something small say 4 chicken wings or a small handful of fries
