I agree. Fedex is WAYYYY better then UPS.
Back to the topic, I got the black stick and it’s sweet! Took it out on a couple runs, and it worked perfect! It’s kinda a pain to change things when it’s on ur arm, but that is expected, lol
I got my Cali, opened it up, turned it on. All seemed well. I installed the software and installed teh drivers for the Cali, but the screen on it says “Upgrader”. My computer recognizes the drivers, yet the software won’t recognize the player. I tried to flash the firmware, but it keeps timing out. I also followed EVERYTHING they say to do to fix it on the support website.
Anyone else have a problem like this and solve it?
I had the “Upgrader” after my first attempt at upgrading the firmware. The other steps on the website were completely useless. I tried upgrading the firmware again and it finally took and all is well. All I can suggest is keep trying to upgrade. the timeout sounds a little strange. Maybe the USB cable or input is flaky?
Need more of these!!!
(with more memory too)
woot!

I agree.
My first Woot, and I only got one.
if I ever find another Woot I like, I am buying 3.
You can always sell then on ebay
Ok, got it, love it, have had a few problems setting up playlists, but I think I’ll be able to work through them. One minor problem I can’t seem to figure out, every time I sync up, it screws up the time/date. Anyone else having this problem? XP, black stick, ran the firmware upgrade just in case, but the dadgum thing still blows the time settings every time I connect. I took a peek around Rio’s help pages, but didn’t see anything about it. Any ideas, kiddies?
Also, someone asked a few pages ago about iTunes… I don’t use that, but after reading over the very fine print in the paperwork that came with, under the copyright section, it does say that “this product is iTunes ready.” Would be interesting to see if it works (hint-hint, iTunes users…).
Red Stick. Updated to version 2.90. Deleted all crap songs it came with. Works great. Easier than expected to use.
Well…I am the number 2 person that got a “DOA”. Spent hours on the phone with RIO and they could not figure out the problem either. They are working with me to get a replacement though, which does say something for the company. Just wish I didn’t have to go through the hassle of it all…
not sure what you’re worried about - most people here on the forum seem to be very happy with theirs.
i count one person that says he got one DOA.
a friend of mine has a player similar to this one, and they seem pretty cool. i almost got one, excepting the fact that i already have more mp3 players than fingers.
:cry
After bitching about having to pay Texas tax and the long shipping time, I’m back to say how much I love this litte guy
One of the best WOOTs I’ve gotten.
Did it come with 2.9 or did you upgrade it? Inquiring minds (with red stick + 1.12) want to know
I have had a (green) 256 MB version of the Rio Cali (red stick) for over a year now and have loved using it. Paid ALOT more than the price of this Woot. My main complaint was not being able to just copy MP3’s to the SD card and then installing it in the Rio and having it work, Had to use the Rio software…pain in the A…
I ordered 3 of these to give as gifts and then found that the black stick works as they all should. Copy to SD…install to Rio and WORKS.
All 3 were BLACK STICK!!!
Gonna give my original away as one of the gifts.
Thanks for the GREAT Woots!
Well, I’m dissapointed with my first woot purchase. I followed the instructions in loading the software and then decided to upgrade the firmware and my cali 128 (red stick) stopped working and all it shows is the Upgrader message on the screen. I have contacted both the manufacturer and Woot but have not gotten any help. anyone have any suggestions for me?
Thanks,
Well, it turns out I was missing a step, which not even the Rio tech support guy caught.
after you download the RioCaliChibaFlash_243.exe and run it, then you have to run RioCaliChibaFlash_243.exe which got copied when you ran RioCaliChibaFlash_243.exe.
This got rid of the upgrader message and now it recognizes the MP3 player, so I’ve been able to copy music.

Is there any trick to powering up the player, other than putting a working AAA battery inside the player, with the correct polarity, and pressing the power button?
Any woot staff listening? Can you please replace this non-working player? My emails seem to have no effect.
Thanks in advance,
A dissatisfied woot customer

Has anyone had the experience of not receiving their woot item? I used the service email to ask what happened to my order and they told me they would contact the supplier and see if they would be able to send me another one. I haven’t heard anything else from them in a week. What do I do?
Politely post it here, like you just did. Then, hope that GallopingCow or eamwrk see it.
I gave it to my wife as a Mother’s Day gift. At first, she wasn’t too thrilled with a “gadget”, but, after I ripped 4 of her albums onto it, and she took it on her walk, she thinks it’s GREAT!
It took a little to understand the software, and download and install the updates, but I think it was another great WOOT buy. I hope they offer it again, I’d get several as gifts.
I have a little FM transmitter and by plugging it into the earphone jack, I can now play WMAs and MP3s through my car’s radio in full stereo and this will also be great for audio books, too. No fumbling for the next tape or CD, just load the whole story on the RIO and listen to it.
I plan to get an SD card to expand the capacity.
This is the first time I ordered a WOOT. I ordered it on 4-27 and there is still no tracking information on the link. (Today is 5-12-05) I have ordered a few WOOTs since, and they have all NOT been shipped. Is this the usual? Does anyone know WHEN I can expect my stuff?
Of course, my credit card was always billed instantaneously.
I hope one of you can give my some insight. Thanks

we are looking into the MP3 player order now. as for the woot-off items, we are delayed a few days due to having almost 12,000 items to ship… we hope to be caught up by friday. Service will e-mail you on the rio order as soon as they have something… sorry for the delay
galloping cow or eamwrk,
I still haven’t gotten anymore information on my mp3 player. I also have the same problem with my mp3 order. My tracking number only shows that billing information has been received but I don’t think it has actually been shipped. service@woot.com hasn’t sent me an update in a week as to whether there are more in stock or if I am getting refunded. Please help. :?
